We Show Our PRIDE
Upcoming Events
We are excited to have someone from Hendricks Power Cooperative at school on Monday to talk to all 4th graders about electrical safety. This is a wonderful supplement to our electricity unit. Also on Monday, the whole school will enjoy a surprise reward for recently filling the wooden PRIDE credit collector. On Thursday, the Dumpster Drummers will be here for a fun performance and presentation about recycling. The whole school also earned this reward for cutting our waste in half during the Waste Free Lunch Challenge! Add in an afternoon of Christmas fun on Thursday, and this week is shaping up to be a blast! Here are some additional reminders:
Tuesday is a school-wide Pajama Day. Many classes will be watching the Polar Express, but unfortunately in 4th grade, it will be business as usual. . . in pajamas!
Thursday is a school-wide Holiday Dress-Up Day. Student Council will also collect $1 donations for Samaritan's Purse.
Please don't forget about our class book exchange. Your child needs to bring in a new or gently used wrapped book that is appropriate for another 4th grade student. Please send the book in by Wednesday afternoon so I have time to make arrangements for any students that were not able to bring a book. (If you wish to donate two books to help a student who might not bring one, that would be great!) Then, on Thursday afternoon, we will have a Christmas celebration in our classroom, and the students will exchange their books. We will enjoy some sweet treats during our celebration on Thursday, and we could use 3 helpers. Sign up to donate food items and/or to volunteer using this Volunteer Spot link: http://vols.pt/vG5c7k Your help is GREATLY appreciated!
This week's special schedule:

There is NO SCHOOL for students this Friday. School will resume on Monday, January 4. Enjoy the long break!
Last Week's Learning
What We Are Studying This Week
DOL/Word Work -- There will be no DOL or Journal this week. During morning work time, the kids will practice essential reading and language skills with Christmas-themed morning work papers. There is also no spelling list for this week! (Merry Christmas, kids!)
STARS Club -- We will wrap up our 2nd quarter STARS Club groups this week. Please check with your child to see if he/she took the AR test for the novel that was read this quarter. All students should have a test to take (or that they've already taken). We will begin new groups after Christmas!
Math -- We will do Lesson 10-6 on Monday, learning how to decide where to begin dividing with long division problems. There will be homework on Monday, but that will be the only math homework assignment this week! On Tuesday, Miss White and Miss Raymer, the exploratory teachers from the high school who have worked with our math groups for the past semester, have planned fun long division activities for their final session with the students. On Wednesday, we will flex our problem solving muscles with story problems based on the "12 Days of Christmas" song. We will also do several fun Christmas logic puzzles. We won't meet on Thursday due to the special Dumpster Drummers performance. After break, we will finish Topics 9 and 10 on long division.
Science -- On Monday the students will receive a study guide for Unit 2, and there will be a test on Wednesday. The best way to study for the test is to review the study guide as well as the review questions that are in the textbook at the end of Unit 2. (We will review many of these in class on Tuesday.) We have been studying this unit for the entire quarter, so hopefully the students just need a quick review to cement their knowledge.
Reading & Language -- We will finish reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland on Tuesday, and there will be a final test over the novel on Wednesday. The last packet (over Chapters 9-12) will be due on Thursday. We will finish the compare/contrast writing we started last week, which will coordinate well with watching the animated Disney version of Alice in Wonderland on Thursday morning. The students will complete a graphic organizer to compare and contrast both versions of the story.
