About Catalysts for Social Action
AFFECXN (Read: AFFECTION), is a Newsletter published by Catalysts for Social Action (CSA). Established in September 2002, Catalysts for Social Action (CSA) is a Not-For-Profit organization dedicated to the cause of child welfare and rehabilitation for children living in orphanages.
India is home to approximately 20 million Orphan children, i.e. the highest in the world. Most of these children struggle to survive and very often end up being trafficked or pushed into illegal works. Less than 3% end up in adoption agencies or orphanages.
CSA believes every child who has reached an institution should be nurtured till he/she grows to be a happy and contributing member of society. We believe that adoption is the best form of child rehabilitation and every eligible child, should be given the opportunity to have a loving and caring family. Where adoption is not possible, the child should be brought-up in a well-run Orphanages with “family like care”.
After the child turns 18 years of age, the aftercare support must continue till he/she is capable of decent livelihood and independent living. This way, we can and must make a life altering difference to the children and by doing so, stop the cycle of poverty and deprivation for them.
We partner with 60+ agencies (adoption agencies and child care institutions/orphanages) across the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh. Around 3200+ children benefit through our interventions.
Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon (SCMM) - January 2017

Aftercare & Livelihood Support
After the age of 18, when they can no longer remain at the orphanage, we facilitate livelihood training linked to job opportunities so that children, are able to earn and start building an independent life for themselves. During this transition period from Orphanage to independent living, CSA also provides mentoring support to each child.
168 children fall in 17+ age category and are expected to leave CCIs in coming year. Under CSA aftercare support, 11 children have received skill training from ICICI Skills Academy and got decent job placements with monthly remuneration of approx Rs.8000
Joy of Giving Campaign with Capri Global Capital Ltd - Sweater Distribution
On an average, about 780 deaths, particularly of homeless people, are recorded due to cold waves each year. Exposure to such weather also affects children to a great extent. Children at CCIs often suffer from cold and high fever due to lack of warm clothes, blankets and hot water for bathing.
‘Daan Utsav’ / ‘Joy of Giving’ is a wonderful opportunity to give back to society!
Children residing at CCIs / orphanages often lack basic amenities and this time, Capri Global Capital Ltd supported our initiative of gifting each child a sweater so they can be warm and comfortable during the winter months.
In total, more than 1000 children across 20 CCIs were provided with sweaters.
Fun time with Clover Infotech Employees!
As part of Joy of Giving, staff gifted children travel bags which they had wished for! Children in turn gave handmade thank you cards to each volunteer. CSA thanks Clover Infotech team for their generosity and time!
