Letter from the Principal
Dear Trillium Creek Families and Friends:
In order to provide what we call a “guarantied and viable curriculum” for each and every student, we at TCPS focus on aligning our teaching practices as we pay close attention to instructional minutes throughout the day. Teachers and support staff work diligently on applying high leverage teaching strategies that raise the rigor of our instructional program as our students work to become more independent learners accepting more responsibility for their own education. These efforts are beginning to show results, and I would like share some good news about the exceptional academic successes that Trillium Creek has accomplished since last year.
Acknowledging there has been, and will be, future challenges that face us, we will not be detoured from our vision to “create a culture of excellence and equity within a community of care”. Realizing the success of this past year toward this vision, we are inviting you to join us in our unrelenting pursuit to ensure that our school culture (amongst adults) remains positive and respectful and most importantly focused on our students.
In looking at test scores it is important to acknowledge that we do NOT define our students or our teachers and their practice, by one test score. The development of the whole child at Trillium involves the contribution and hard work of teachers and instructional assistants across all grade levels. It also includes our classified staff that contributes invaluable contributions on a daily basis - often going unnoticed. Finally, we would like to thank our parents for their positive, very generous financial and volunteer contributions that enhance our ability to serve the students at Trillium Creek.
There is much to celebrate at Trillium! Attached to this newsletter (at the very bottom) are the results of the Oregon State Report Card on public schools. Please note that the importance of these scores is that the results include ALL students tested at a school. Our achievement can only happen with a pervasive, systematic instructional program across all grade levels – especially in grades that don’t test as they build a strong foundation of knowledge that prepares students for progressively more complex curricular content. This can only happen at a school with excellent instruction and collaboration that produces systematic achievement with great results.
Trillium State Testing Results based on Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC)
- In Mathematics 75% of our students “met or exceeded” an improvement of 10% from the previous year!
- In English Language Arts 77% of our students “met or exceeded” an improvement of 4% from the previous year.
- In Science 94% of our students “met or exceeded” the same as the previous year.
Finally, and most importantly, our students at Trillium are educated in a safe and caring environment. We will continue our commitment to provide a stellar education worthy of our students and ask for your positive support and avocation for the great school Trillium Creek is and will continue to be.
Thank you,
Jim Mangan, Principal

District Office Information
In 2017, the Oregon Department of Education introduced new, comprehensive Health and Wellness Standards and Performance Indicators for kindergarten through 12th grade. Over the last year, a team of West Linn-Wilsonville teachers, counselors and administrators has been working to learn about the standards, explore curricular resources and implement practices to teach toward the standards.
We will hold another community information meeting on Nov. 27 at the district office from 6:30 - 7:30 to provide an update on the district's Health & Wellness Plan. Our district office is located at 22210 SW Stafford Road, Tualatin, OR 97072.
The "Green" Corner
Did you know....
Roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year (approximately 1.3 billion tonnes) gets lost or wasted. Food losses and waste amount is roughly US$ 680 billion in industrialized countries and US$ 310 billion in developing countries.
How can we help? It's easier than you think. Take a look at the link below to learn how to be better about food waste and learn how to compost.

At Trillium Creek we are partnering with TREX to help with the plastic pollution. You are able to recycle your clean, dry empty plastic bags and film packaging. Look for bins and signage as you walk through the front doors of the school.
We can no longer recycle batteries or ink cartridges here at Trillium. If you have questions on where to go to recycle these items, please call Metro.
Winter Craft Fair-Wednesday December 5th
We need lots of volunteers for this great event to happen. If you are signing your child up, please consider helping at the event. Volunteer sign-ups will come out after student registration.

Working Parents Liaison!
Are you a working parent who finds it hard to connect with what is going on at TCPS and the PTA? Do you have ideas to contribute for the growth of the PTA but not sure how to share them? Well, we now have a Working Parents Liaison committed to representing the voices of the working parents who aren’t able to attend daytime PTA meetings, have ideas and suggestions for the success of the PTA, or can’t volunteer for PTA-supported events due to work schedules. Please reach out to Heather Brinkley, our new Working Parents Liaison, at brinkleyfamily97@gmail.com. We are really wanting all parents to feel informed and included in what is going on at school and at the PTA.

A HUGE THANK YOU!
As Harvest Happenings chairperson, I’d like to thank all those who helped out that evening. We would like to thank all those people who signed up for one shift but worked 2 or sometimes 3 shifts. We could not have kept the night moving without you. Your hard work was much appreciated and your willingness to give your time kept games open. We’d like to thank some stellar volunteers who went above and beyond.
- Stacy and Steve Burch and Ted Drayton who stayed past 9 pm sweeping, moving items and using the backpack vacuum to help clean the school. We literally could not have done it without you! You really went beyond what was asked and jumped in to help anywhere.
- April Buttson for staying past 9 pm using her super human strength to move items and help in ANY way she could.
- The set up volunteers who solved problems and were happy to work hard.
- Eric Emerick for taking over raffle duty and putting out all those little fires before anyone noticed.
- All those who worked the front tables!!
- Charity Hudnut for all her help before and during the event.
- Thank you to all those volunteers who signed up for the event, you were noticed and we are so thankful for your service to our school.
