Roadrunner Ramp Weekly
News from Arbor View Elementary School: January 8, 2021
Pick up and drop-off information
We are excited to welcome back our in-person learners back to the building on January 11! Whether your student is learning in the classroom or at home, the Arbor View staff is ready to support their learning.
A reminder of drop off and pick up for those returning, or those who are new to in-person:
Morning session: 8:50 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
Afternoon session: 1:10 p.m. to 3:35 p.m.
Arrival:
Your child has been assigned a morning or afternoon session. Please check PowerSchool if you have not already: https://ps.ccsd89.org/public/
Bus information is in PowerSchool. Students should be wearing their mask before they board the bus.
When students arrive at school, there will be adults pointing them to their entrance. These are the same as October/November. There are roadrunners on the ground to help students stand 6 feet apart while waiting to have their temperatures taken. Please dress students for the weather as they may have a short wait outside.
Students will need to bring a self-certification ticket every day. Forms will be handed out at school and can also be printed from www.ccsd89.org/certify If a student arrives without the ticket or with a ticket not filled out, they will go to a separate area to wait until we can contact their guardian. Your student can start learning more quickly if you double-check that they have a self-certification ticket before they leave for school.
Students will also need to bring their technology device and charger (iPad or Chromebook) to and from school each day.
Please be aware that in every elementary classroom, there will be live teaching taking place in both morning and afternoon sessions. Homeroom teachers will not be available to respond to messages from students who are doing asynchronous work while the teacher is providing live instruction to the other half of the class. Students may be working with support staff and specials teachers during asynchronous time.
Please see the map and door entrance.

Dismissal:
Car pickup: Please pull all the way up to the red line (see map) to allow as many cars as possible to pick up children.
We will still be using a number system for drive-up/walkers. If you are a new family to in-person, you will receive a number. This will become your family number for drive-up/walk-up identification for the year. Display this number in your car as you pull up. Please stay in your car and an adult will call your child to the car by their number. If you have questions, there will be additional staff in the pickup line for the first few days.
Walker pickup: Please go to Door 10 and an adult will bring you your student.
Use social distancing and wear masks on school grounds. Playgrounds will be closed during school hours and after school.
We look forward to seeing your child in person and continuing support for remote learners!
Surveillance screening
COVID-19 reminders
School supplies: bring two masks, learning device to class each day
All in-person students should bring two masks to school each day. The school has only a limited supply of replacement masks. Students should also bring their learning device (Chromebook or iPad) to school, and then back home, each day.
Save time for you and your student: bring a self-certification ticket every day
All students who will be in classrooms must bring a self-certification ticket to school every day. The tickets can be printed from www.ccsd89.org/certify (Espanol)
If a student does not have their ticket, they will be moved to a separate area while the school contacts their family. This will delay your student from getting to class.
Reminder: Neck warmers (gaiters) are not allowed as face covering
Students and staff cannot wear neck warmers (also known as gaiters or athletic face coverings) in CCSD 89 schools. Families who have been using neck warmers as their student's face covering are encouraged to find a mask that can be worn throughout the school day. Masks should cover the nose and mouth, have two breathable fabric layers, and fit snugly against the face.
Continue to report COVID-19 symptoms to school nurse
If your student is COVID-19 positive, has COVID-19 symptoms, or is in quarantine because they were a close contact of someone with COVID-19, please stay home and also contact Marcia Johnson (mjohnson@ccsd89.org (630)469-5505. She can answer questions about next steps and contact tracing.
The ability to understand transmission levels and potential absences in schools (for both students and staff) helps keep students and staff safe, and can prevent outbreaks in a school.
If your student has COVID-19 or COVID-19 symptoms but they are healthy enough to participate in remote learning, they will not be marked absent. If your student is not able to participate in remote learning, families can report the absence in the traditional manner.
The schools will be sending notifications to families when a student or staff member who was in the building is diagnosed with COVID-19. The district will continue to update historical data on student/staff positive cases, exclusions, and quarantine.
Please reach out to our school’s social worker if your family needs help
During this pandemic, many families face difficult or challenging circumstances, including struggles with food, paying bills, or affording rent payments. If your family needs help, our school’s social worker can connect you with direct assistance as well as contacts that can provide additional resources. If your family needs help, please contact Kim Wankel kwankel@ccsd89.org or (630) 469-5505

Art Smart
The January Art Smart Challenge is “Arrangement in Grey and Black No. 1 (Portrait of the Artist’s Mother)” by James McNeil Whistler. Most people call this painting “Whistler’s Mother.” The original painting was bought by France in 1891 and is now located at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. It is still known today as one of the most recognized works of art by an American artist outside of the United States.
Encourage your child to try out Art Smart this month! You can print the attached January Art Smart Challenge form at home or pick up a copy in the Arbor View pick-up area. The students will display their Art Smart coloring pages through Flipgrid. All the directions are included in the January Art Smart Challenge form. For questions or more information, please send an e-mail to arborviewartsmart@gmail.com
