As we progress through the school year, please continue to remember the importance of school attendance and arriving to school on time. In addition, children who arrive late to school miss the important groundwork that is laid by teachers at the beginning of the day.

The instruction and learning that occur on a daily basis in the classroom is our central mission. Parents who make regular school attendance and punctuality a high priority are helping their children learn to accept responsibility, which is an important lesson for a successful life.

As we work to increase Collins Intermediate’s daily attendance – please continue to support your child’s educational process by limiting the amount of school missed except for illness. Collins Intermediate daily goal is 98.5%.

Second Grading Period

Big picture

Our Attendance is critically low!

It is imperative that your child is at school to receive the quality instruction that is necessary to obtain the skills needed for current and future academic success. The state of Texas uses attendance rates as part of the calculations for Academic Distinctions. If attendance continues to drop at this rate, it could potentially cause Collins to lose our Distinctions from TEA. We know illness and family emergencies are unavoidable but please try to avoid any unnecessary absences or vacations.

Hours of Missed Instruction (Early Checkout) as of December 4th = 2961 Hours

Attendance Boundary Process – The Woodlands & TW College Park Elementaries

December 5, 2019

Dear Parents,

Ride Elementary, which opened in 1983, is located at 4920 West Panther Creek Dr. It currently has 751 active students and a building capacity of approximately 575 to 600 students. The school now requires the use of 12 portable classrooms to accommodate the student population. Lamar Elementary, which opened in 1971, has a current enrollment of 800 students and utilizes 6 portable classrooms. In 2019, the legislature implemented full day Pre-Kindergarten which will also create an additional demand for classroom space on those campuses that have Pre-K programs.

To address these challenges, an Attendance Boundary Committee (ABC) has been established. The committee is composed of parents and principals of elementary and intermediate schools serving the Woodlands and College Park feeder patterns along with CISD administrators. This committee will soon begin the process of developing zoning scenarios for the elementary schools for the primary objective of reducing the crowding at Ride. It is important to the District to obtain the input of the parents and community on these various zoning scenarios. Therefore, the District is providing multiple opportunities for anyone interested to attend the Zoning Information Overview and Community meetings. Each meeting is offered three times for convenience. Much of the information to be presented at the Zoning Information Overview will be available on CISD’s website at

Additional information along with forms for submitting comments is available at

Following the Community Presentation, the ABC will present its recommendation to the Conroe ISD Board of Trustees. The Board is responsible for the final decision for the attendance boundaries.

Voting Going on now!!

Jo Lynne Marlin

Jo Lynne Marlin just started her 21st year as a crossing guard. She crosses students for David Elementary followed by Collins Intermediate at a very busy intersection. Jo Lynne’s priority is the safety of all students. Between crossing students, Jo Lynne has made minor bike repairs, patched up skinned knees, and lends an ear to students. Jo Lynne greets every student by their name and puts a smile on their face as they make their way to school. She has built a special rapport with students and parents as evidenced by the kind words and gifts she receives at throughout the school year.

Nominations for Gifted and Talented Testing

Nominations are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until February, nominations are accepted at this time. Nominations can be made by the parents and/or teachers. It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT scores have arrived before nominating their child because CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. If you are interested in nominating your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher at conferences. Nominations will be accepted through December 18. You may request a nomination form from the front office or the Assistant Principal. You can also find the nomination form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage.

If not, this is an attempt to remedy that situation. You will need the code - it is @2a77fk

In Mr. Hunt’s art class, we are creating our own shoe sculptures out of cardboard! We started with an orthographic drawing, learned about the three main types of sculpture, then began to create unique, wearable pieces of art! With Mrs. Ferguson, we are creating decorative line animal paintings! We have been learning all about color mixing, color schemes, and how to create rhythm in art through the use of line
