The Principal's Desk At Sycamore

Dr. Crystal Cooper, Principal
Sycamore Parents,
Parents,
Many of you have asked for ways that you can support our 5th grade student, Andriux, who is battling a rare cancer. I have additional information so, please take a moment to read his current status and ways that you can support.
His teacher, Dr. Davis visited with Andriux on Monday evening. He reported that he was in good spirits and enjoyed talking with Dr. Davis. Dr. Davis was able to speak with the family about things that would be helpful and Andriux's likes. We would like to collect some items to deliver to the family soon. If you would like to help with getting any of these items, please deliver to the front office-attention Dr. Cooper.
Andriux likes: Orange Gatorade and Mott's applesauce to take after his medicine and books about fun information (brain teasers and myths), the Big Nate series, I Survived Series, and Middle School series.
His mother, Lyndsey could use gas gift cards due to the new long drive and gift cards for fast food or Grub Hub/Uber eats to use when she is able to come home. Her email also is Lyndsey.zapata@gmail.com if you would like to send her coupons, etc. through this route.
You all are an amazing community! Thank you for all you have already done to support this family.

I hope this email finds you well. Some of you have been asking about one of our 5th grade students, Andriux Zapata, and how he is doing, since he has been out this week. We have some information to share with you so that you can share it tonight or this weekend with your child, if you so choose.
Andriux hadn't been feeling well for a short time, and on Monday, his mom, Lyndsey, took him to the doctor. After several tests and surgery, it has been confirmed that Andriux has T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Lymphoma- Stage 4. This is a rare childhood cancer that will need an aggressive form of chemotherapy to be able to treat and offer him a great quality of life. We have great hope that he will come out of this!
Due to this sensitive information, we wanted to make sure that you shared it with your child also in hopes that they would be able to write some letters to Andriux and share their support toward him in their special way in school tomorrow. We will also come to the classroom after announcements and next week with Nicole Moody (our counselor), to offer support to any students who have questions.
As of today, we know he will be in the hospital for the next 30 days while getting the best treatment possible. We will miss him, but know that he is under great care. He's already making funny jokes about the "academic," part of the days in the hospital. It was great to hear him laughing with me today on the phone even if for a moment.
Today, we will call him and get a chance to see him and hear his voice over the phone. All of the positive energy and prayers you can pray are needed right now for Andriux and his family. Thank you for keeping our friend in your hearts and minds.
