Practicing Reading Strategies
We have been busy practicing our comprehension reading strategies of inferring and visualizing. I am so impressed by how the students have made connections with their books and are having great discussions with their reading partners.
Writing about Reading
Opinion writing has been the focus for January. The students are learning how to voice their opinion to an audience. They have to state evidence as to "why" they think the way they do and are practicing using transition words like "first," "second," "next," and "finally."
Math Explorations
Our second grade has had a lot of fun exploring with attribute blocks, arrays, geoboards, and more! The focus for Unit 5 has been learning about 2-D and 3-D shapes. Some important math vocabulary words we have discussed are "lines," "parallel," "vertex," and "angles."
What's Going on in Science?
STEM SCIENCE
We are having so much fun with our PLTW STEM Science "Grids and Games" module! The students have learning what it takes to write an algorithm and computer program to create a game on the app, Scratch, Jr. Scratch, Jr. is a FREE app. Try it out at home!
