Bl@zer.Bytes: Trying Something New
Instead of sending out lots of lengthy emails (I've really tried to limit those this year), I'm going to try a once-a-week newsletter with different kinds of information. It will include any important (I'll always put that first and label it "important" in case you don't read the whole newsletter) need-to-know news related to technology; "cool tools", apps and other resources that may be new to you; teacher, lesson, department, and other technology spotlights; "quick tips", and more. As always, I welcome your suggestions.
District Inventory Update & Request
At this time, all that is needed from each person in the building is to have all your R2 computing devices (desktops, laptops, Chromebooks, iPads) AT SCHOOL and IN YOUR ASSIGNED LOCATION each and every day, beginning on Monday. This is actually R2 district policy for all 190 days of school, however, beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 23rd, Mr. Street and I will be using a new district-provided spreadsheet to inventory the computing items in each location (classroom, sub-classroom, closet/storage room or office within a classroom, office, lab, workroom, hallway, cafeteria, cart, etc.). This has to match up with what the district already has in their R2 Asset System database as being in specified locations on our campus. We will try our best to be unobtrusive and not disrupt your teaching; please make sure that we are able to easily locate and gain access to your devices in order to scan them.
So, please, beginning MONDAY make sure that ALL tech items that do not belong to you personally, whether they were simply issued to you by R2 or purchased with funds from a grant/special program/department funds/etc, are in your proper assigned location. Bring them from home back to school, get them out of the closets in your room, and/or otherwise track them down -- whatever it takes.
I will follow up with more information as soon as the district provides me with more specific dates as to their timeline for RVHS.
Thank you all for your help with this arduous task! :)
Ridge View Technology PD & Sharing Google Classroom
The Technology Leadership Team has been discussing ways to make sharing information, ideas, and technology PD easier with our staff. Many people find it difficult to keep up with all the hundreds of docs in their Google Drive and it was suggested that I create a Google Classroom as a one-stop place to find all things technology-related. I think this is a great suggestion, so here it is!
All certified staff are required to join, so I can share all PD documents through Google Classroom and you can submit things back to me for credit. I welcome and encourage all other staff to join and participate, as well!
To join, go to Google Classroom https://classroom.google.com; the code to join the Ridge View Technology PD & Sharing Google Classroom is: inxls9n.
I'll be sharing some virtual PD with you for next week through the Google Classroom since I'll be tied up with inventory.
