Guidance Greatness
This month's guidance lesson will focus on conflict. Students will learn the causes of conflict and roadblocks to resolving it. More importantly they will learn conflict resolution skills which will help them out of a sticky situation.
Seventh Grade:
Our focus in 7th grade will be on mental health and wellness. We will discuss the importance of getting enough sleep. We will also talk about what it means to be mentally healthy. Students will gain a better understanding of they can do to improve their mental health and be well.
Eighth Grade:
Our 8th grade students will be learning about high school credits, endorsements, and magnet schools. We will help students understand their options beyond middle school and what will be required of them in order to graduate.

Parent Pointers: Course Protection
How does course protection work?
Once a student is enrolled course protection, a new tile will populate on their Schoology page for the failed course. Students must complete a pre-assessment prior to completing any other work. The student's advisor (an NISD teacher) will email them and let them know what modules to complete. The student is responsible for completing the module practice prior to completing the assessment. If the student does well, their failing grade is replaced with a 70.
What happens if a student does not pass their course protection?
If a student does not pass the assigned course protection, then they should do their best for the remainder of the marking periods and try to avoid failing other courses. A student can fail one course for the year but two or more courses puts them in danger of summer school.
When does course protection take place?
We encourage students to get their course protection done at home with the help of their family. If students are having a difficult time at home getting it done, they should speak to their counselor or our Student Success Facilitator so we can create a plan for them.
