Betsy's Bits

September 27, 2015

SafeSchools modules are due Wednesday for the district and by Tuesday night for SanLee!

in Case You Missed It:

Jeanette Holt, our new EC teacher begins on Monday! I know the EC Team is jumping for joy!!!! Jeanette is from Forsyth County and will be commuting for a while. She has twin toddlers, an elementary age son, and a grown son which married the same year she had her twins. Please stop by her room on the 8th grade hallway beside Technology to welcome her to the family. Jessica Stone has been amazing and held down the fort by maintaining consistency and assisting with planning and grading for our separate-setting students. We appreciate retired teacher, Pricilla Gooch, for helping us by subbing four days a week in the classroom. Rena Szakaly has ensured that all the paperwork and meetings for Mrs. Holt's caseload have stayed up to date and current. It takes a village...:)

We have secured a seventh grade Social Studies teacher to officially begin on Monday, October 5. Her name is Sara Nichols. Sara will be visiting on Thursday, October 1st to shadow Rudy, get to know our school, her new 7th grade teammates, and the students. Sara is a military wife, and her husband's assignment to Fort Bragg brings her to the area. She has some very interesting teaching experiences including an all boys school in KY with 99% of students receiving free and reduced lunch.

Rudy Leon's last day on campus will be Thursday, October 1. He has a wedding out of state he will be attending and will be out on Friday. Please make sure to stop by and wish Rudy well in the next chapter of his life. We will miss him and his easy-going spirit.

We continue to be on the search for a 7th grade science teacher. Again, if you know ANYONE in a different county or state wanting a change which is certified in middle grades science let me know. In the mean time, I want to thank Bev Marshburn, 7th grade Science and Science Dept. Chairperson, for planning science for all students on the 7th grade hallway and Linda Davis for grading and inputting grades in PowerSchool for the 6 classes without a certified teacher. Bev is working closely with Gracie Williams, the sub 4 days a week in the classroom to make sure the students are staying up with the classes she is teaching. They are already planning some Videyo lessons and flip/flopping mid-way through classes which she needs to do demonstrations and/or labs. Janet Cameron, District Essentially Science Coach, has also been working with Bev to give her ideas and resources. Whatever it takes...:)

Please keep Katie Kline, 8th grade math, and Kim McElveen, front office receptionist, in your thoughts. Both have lost their grandmothers in the last few days.

Cool idea for weekly goal setting and reflection!
