All library books are now overdue! Please return books to the library as soon as possible.

4th Quarter Reading Challenge

All 4th quarter reading logs are due no later than this Wednesday, May 27th. Prizes will be awarded to the top readers in each grade level, and every participant will receive recognition.

Remember to list books completed with page numbers. An adult must sign by each book completed, and all pages must be totaled at the end.

Summer Reading begins on June 1st!

All students, faculty, and staff who will be a part of Fork Shoals School during the 2015-2016 school year are encouraged to participate in our summer reading program!

Our school goal is to read 500,000 pages this summer, and individuals are urged to read at least 500 pages.

The Fork Shoals Library is open on Wednesdays this summer, June 10-August 5, from 9am to noon. All students must be accompanied by adults.

2015-2016 South Carolina Book Award Nominees

It's time to start reading the nominees for the 2015-2016 South Carolina Book Awards! For a quick peek at the nominated titles, check out the Book Award videos on the Fork Shoals Library's YouTube channel (see link above).

Fork Shoals participates in both the state Picture and Children's Book Award programs, sponsored by the South Carolina Association of School Librarians. Students who read at least five books from each level are eligible to vote for their favorite in February of 2016.

Dates to Remember:

  • May 27 - Yearbook Day; 4th quarter reading logs due
  • May 29 - Spirit Day; Fresh Fruit Friday
  • May 29-June 3 - Awards Days (See teacher newsletters for specific dates.)
  • June 2 - Skate Night
  • June 4 - Faculty Talent Show, 9am
  • June 5 - Last day of school


Parents should pick up any medication that has been in the health this year. It cannot be sent home with students. Any left after June 5th will be destroyed.

Self-addressed stamped envelope

Please remember to send in self-addressed, stamped envelope for report cards to be mailed home.

Fees owed to school

All fees (cafeteria, library, books, etc.) should be cleared prior to the end of the year. Report cards will not be mailed if fees are owed. Thank you for returning all books, etc.

Summer reading/activities

Students will receive information about summer reading and summer activity sheets. The sheets will also be available on our website. These are both great ways to keep students working on learning activities over the summer. Students who return their activity logs and reading logs when school starts back in August will be rewarded. Our school library will be open every Wednesday from 9:00-noon. Come and check out books each week!

Lost and found

Parents please be sure to check the lost and found during field days and award days. All unclaimed items will be donated to charity after June 5th.


Mark your calendars! Yearbook day is Wednesday, May 27th. Mrs. McLaney will reveal the winner of our cover contest that morning on the FSS morning news. At 9:00, we will distribute yearbooks starting with 5th grade and working our way down to K5. The next day, Thursday, May 28th, we will sell the few extras we have starting at 7:30 in the bell tower. It will be on a first come, first served basis. They will sell for $19.00, and checks should be made payable to Fork Shoals School.
