Our Promise
Every student in Dallas School District is known by name, strength, and need, and graduates ready for career, college, and community.
We did it! Igniting Innovation!
We aligned this event with the launch of our new STEAM Machine which was on display in the town square. This is the first phase, now we will begin work on the inside. The goal of our Machine is to do outreach to local schools to get kids excited about STEAM through making and creative challenges. We will eventually do Drive-in PD for teachers who can reserve the STEAM Machine to visit their classroom to help boost engagement as well as to learn for themselves from some of our folks that are doing this work already. Shared PD, kid excitement and community support for schools, we are hoping for great things in the future for our District!
I have to thank all that were involved with planning and organizing this event. We have been busy these past few months getting ready for Saturday night’s activities. I appreciate you all very much for the work you do with kids and the story that was shared revolved around your work here at LaCreole. I could not have been prouder of our student ambassadors along with some high school students who helped lead activities fro about 60 community members who attended.
Congratulations to our Joyce who gave a moving talk about caring for kids and the need for supporting them every day. Our team consisted of Amy, Malynda, Ken, Michele, Jacob, Doug, Heather, Joelle and Drew from LaCreole along with Jena Vessell from Whitworth, Theresa Lehman from Oakdale and Tim Ray from DHS. These folks put in a ton of extra time and energy to make our SPARKS ‘19 event a huge success! Thank-you, Thank-you to you all from the bottom of my heart!
Glad you’re here!
Seesaw Challenge Continues
Great first nine weeks for the Seesaw Challenge!
Thanks all!
WHAT DOES THE RESEARCH SAY ABOUT STUDENT PORTFOLIOS?
Evidence indicates that portfolios are associated with positive student outcomes such as self-reflection and self-assessment. They can also provide important feedback to teachers about student learning. Researchers have questioned whether it is fair to use classwork to make inferences about individual student learning, especially when comparing students across classrooms or schools.
Additionally, some experts have expressed concerns about implementation challenges, including a lack of student support for assessments that may be perceived as more difficult than traditional teacher-created tests. For portfolios to be done well, school leaders need to build teacher capacity, communicate with stakeholders about the process, and provide logistical support in the form of schedule and supplies.
I think we have all this covered and look forward to seeing more students engaged in developing their portfolio. Now on to our second 9 weeks!
Please let me know if I can help in any way!
