A MESSAGE FROM MRS. MOLITOR
Hello Glendale Families!
The story for this month is: After The Fall by Dan Santat
Caldecott Medalist Dan Santat's poignant tale follows Humpty Dumpty, an avid bird watcher whose favorite place to be is high up on the city wall―that is, until after his famous fall. Now terrified of heights, Humpty can longer do many of the things he loves most.
Will he summon the courage to face his fear?
After the Fall (How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again) is a masterful picture book that will remind readers of all ages that Life begins when you get back up.
I hope you enjoy it, and always remember to :
Be Safe
Be Responsible
Be Respectful
Jennifer Molitor
Glendale Elementary School Principal
C.A.R.E.S
Students at Glendale will be recognized for showing the CARES skills through out the school year. Adults can recognize students who are doing an excellent job demonstrating: Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy or Self control. Students who are recognized will be honored with a certificate, have their names announced at an All School Meeting, will be showcased in the Glendale monthly newsletter and will get to enjoy a cinnamon roll breakfast with Mrs. Molitor & the other recipients during morning meeting.
Congratulations to all of the students that received this award for March! The next breakfast honoring our March winners will be Friday, April 15th.
ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL REFRESHER
As we return back from spring break, we wanted to remind everyone of our arrival & dismissal procedures. We appreciate your continued cooperation to keep our students and staff safe.
MORNING ARRIVAL:
All K-5 students that are dropped off or walk, should go to the lower level doors. No students may be dropped off before 9:00 am. Kid’s Co. is available for families that need supervision before 9:00. You will need to register your student with Kid’s Co. At 9:00 the doors will open and an adult will greet students.
Buses drop students off on the upper level parking lot. For students that are arriving late after 9:20am, parents will need to park in the upper parking lot and accompany their student in to the main entrance to sign them in for the day. The lower level doors will be locked at 9:20am.
END OF DAY DISMISSAL:
Buses will pick up students in the upper level parking lot. All K-5 students that are picked up or walk will be in the lower level parking lot.
PICK UP IN CAR LINE: Please have your sign ready & visible in the window until your student(s) is in the car. When arriving in the parking lot, always stay to the right and form only one line- please follow the arrows and stay inside the painted pick up lane.
STUDENTS BEING BUCKLED IN CARSEATS: Once your child gets in the car, we ask that you please pull all the way to the end of the sidewalk near the lower level exit/stop sign to assist them in order to keep the line moving.
Kids Co. is available if you need care for your student after 4:00pm. If there is an emergency and you are going to be late, please notify the office and your student will be waiting in the front office. You will need to come in and sign them out.
If you have any questions, feel free to call the main office at 952.226.0200. If needed, the Kids Company phone number is 952.226.0090. Again, our main goal is to have a safe process to get our valuable students here and back home every day. Thank you for your cooperation!
TECH SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES/STUDENTS
We ask that families continue to use the IT Help Desk Form (as they did last year) when needing additional tech support at home with their 1:1 devices.

SPRING TESTING SCHEDULE
Grades 3-5 students will be taking the MCA III Math and Reading test during the weeks of March 7th- May 6th.
Grade 5 students will be taking the MCA Science test during the time frame of March 7th- May 13th.
*All MCA testing is online only.
Why statewide testing?
Minnesota values its educational system and the professionalism of its educators. Minnesota educators created the academic standards which are rigorous and prepare our students for career and college. The statewide assessments are how we as a state measure that curriculum and daily instruction in our schools are being aligned to the academics standards, ensuring all students are being provided an equitable education. Statewide assessment results are just one tool to monitor that we are providing our children with the education that will ensure a strong workforce and knowledgeable citizens (from the Minnesota Department of Education).
Please click below to read more information about statewide testing and access the parent/guardian opt out form. This form must be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to the main office.
LOOKING AHEAD TO 2022-23
The teachers, in cooperation with the principal, build balanced classrooms to create the most positive, engaging, and rigorous learning environment for all students. They consider factors such as students’ unique strengths and areas of needed growth, work habits, ability, and special individual needs. All teachers at Glendale are highly qualified and we do not guarantee specific teachers. During spring parent-teacher conferences, you may share any special considerations you feel your child may need for next year.

4 & 5-Finishing portraits & *hopefully* clay!
Hello Glendale Families! We have been doing a wide variety of activities to keep building our Cardio Vascular endurance. Also, we continue to focus on teamwork, sportsmanship and participation. Students have been using our new scooters, we have played some Basketball Shooting games (March Madness) and even some team Battleship! Our class periods are exciting, fun and fast. Don’t forget to ask your child what they did in Physical Education class when they get home each evening. We are hoping to be outside soon, PLEASE help your child to remember proper tennis shoes and to dress for the weather.
MEDIA:
Kindergarten-2nd-Throughout the year I have been reading them the 10 Star of the North picture book nominees. This month we finished reading all 10 and students were able to vote on their favorites! The book with the most votes was Friday Night Wrestlefest. Ask your child what they voted for!
3rd-5th-Students in this grade have the opportunity to read the Maud Hart Lovelace chapter book nominees. If they read 3 or more this year they had the option to vote. When Stars are Scattered was the favorite among those who voted! Ask your child if they read any of the nominees.
K and 1st- Students are enjoying the new game CodeSpark that we started this month. They are continuing to strengthen their coding skills and learning skills such as sequencing commands, how to loop a set of commands, and how to use problem solving skills to complete each level. They are doing awesome!
2nd-Students are continuing to work in Code.org. This month’s focus has been on Loops and learning how to loop a set of commands to help make their code shorter and more concise.
3rd- Students are continuing their work in Code.org. This month’s focus has been on creating Art with code and using Loops in coding to make their code shorter and more concise.
4th-Students have continued their work in Code.org. This month’s focus has been on using Events in coding. Events are actions that cause something to happen. Students are having fun using Events to create a basketball game, a Dance party, and a Star Wars game all by using Events in coding!
5th-Students are continuing their work in Code.org. This month we reviewed private vs. personal information and talked about the importance of thinking about the stuff we post on the internet and making sure it is safe and appropriate. We followed this up by starting to code an All About Me project. Students have to add events in their project to share about their interests. Ask them about it!
MUSIC:
Kinders have been learning about quarter notes and eighth notes, which we call TA and TI-TI in music class. They have learned how to clap and say these rhythms, and will soon be playing these on an instrument! Music in 1st - 3rd grade has been busy with rehearsing for our big concert on May 18th. Many of them were so brave and tried out for solos! 4th and 5th grade have been learning the cup song, made famous by Anna Kendrick. They have learned how to perform the cup rhythms at many different tempos, and just recently started performing it in small groups in a circle!
SOCIAL WORKER SUMMARY
LUNCH BALANCES
Please be sure to check your child(ren)'s School Cafe balances before the end of the school year. Any existing balances will transfer over to next year's accounts. Any negative balances will need to be paid.
*Please note: If your student(s) has a negative account balance, they will not be eligible to receive seconds of the entree.
We were fortunate to have state-funded lunches provided to us this year, however, families will once again be responsible for purchasing meals next year. If this is a hardship for your family & you need assistance, you may apply for the Free/Reduced Lunch program by filling out a form that can be found on the Parent Page of the district website under the School Cafe Logo.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Kitchen Manager, Pat Tasse, at 952.226.0208 or the office at 952.226.0200.
HEALTH OFFICE NEWS
As always, please remember to check your student for head lice over the spring break and periodically throughout the year. Information about head lice is available on the Health Services website: https://www.priorlake-savage.k12.mn.us/about-us/departments/lai/student-support-services/health-safety If you do not have access to a computer, please call the Health office for a hard copy.
Tips for parents at home:
• Talk to your child about not sharing personal items such as combs, brushes and hats.
• Check your child’s head before and after sleep-over experiences.
• Talk to your child about avoiding head-to-head (hair-to-hair) contact during play and other activities at home, school, and elsewhere (sports activities, playground, slumber parties, camp). For example, in some situations a helpful strategy to decrease hair-to-hair contact may be to keep long hair in a ponytail rather than allowing it to hang down.
DRESS CODE
The weather is getting warmer and with that comes wardrobe style changes! We thought it would be a great time to send a friendly reminder about our dress code and what's appropriate to wear to school. This can also be found on our Glendale website in the Student Handbook on pages 13-14.
A dress code policy is in place to encourage students to be dressed appropriately for school activities and in keeping with community standards. This is a joint responsibility of the student and the student’s parent(s) or guardian(s).
Appropriate clothing includes, but is not limited to, the following:
1) Clothing appropriate for the weather.
2) Clothing that does not create a health or safety hazard.
3) Clothing appropriate for the activity (i.e., physical education or the classroom).
Inappropriate clothing includes, but is not limited to, the following:
1) “Short shorts,” skimpy tank tops, tops that expose the midriff, and other clothing that is not in keeping with community standards.
2) Clothing bearing a message that is lewd, vulgar, or obscene.
3) Apparel promoting products or activities that are illegal for use by minors.
4) Objectionable emblems, badges, symbols, signs, words, objects or pictures on clothing or jewelry communicating a message that is racist, sexist, or otherwise derogatory to a protected minority group, evidences gang membership or affiliation, or approves, advances, or provokes any form of religious, racial, or sexual harassment and/or violence against other individuals as defined in policy 413. 5.
5) Any apparel or footwear that would damage school property.
6) Hats are not allowed in the building except with the approval of the building principal (i.e., student undergoing chemotherapy; medical situations).
7) Any item of apparel deemed disruptive to the educational process by an administrator.
Students who are in violation of this policy will be asked to change out of the offensive clothing. Other options may include sending the student home, wearing PE clothes, or other disciplinary actions. If your student questions appropriateness of clothing, they should check in at the office with a principal or counselor before the start of the school day.
More information can be found in School Board policy 504, Student Dress and Appearance.
PTC CORNER
Hello Glendale Families -
We are busy planning a number of events this spring including more restaurant nights and a SUN-sational Teacher Appreciation Week! We will also be hosting a Family Fun event with games, lots of prizes, raffle items, food and more. Be on the look for more details coming home as we get closer to each event.
One of our big projects coming out of the Glendale Games fundraiser this fall was an indoor mural. We are excited to say that this project is moving forward and we are currently waiting on design options from the artist. We will include staff and students in the final design selection and are so excited to see this in our hallway later this spring!
