OUR PLANET -OUR HOME
Reduce Reuse, Recycle
Dear Parents,
Thank you for being part of your child's learning by helping them with their recycled project. Students explained and shared their games. We will keep playing with these games during our Earth Week.
We had a wonderful week as we continued to talk about reusing and recycling and the importance of taking care of our planet Earth. This week we focused on discussing where trash goes after we dispense it, and how when recycled, it can be put to better use. We learned about the recycling process of paper and plastic, and the new material that can be mad out of the used paper and containers. Students also learned how what is considered trash to some, can be re-used by others to make fun things like instruments and toys. Next week, celebrating Earth day, we will have several activities where students use will use their creativity to make new things out of recycled materials.
During our literacy small groups this week, we focused on phonological awareness and knowledge wof print and its uses. We played several rhyming games, performed a letter search, and went on a sound hunt in search for classroom materials that started with the same letters.
We also worked with measurement and comparing size and quantity using the recycle materials you have been sending to the classroom. Thank you for your contribution and please keep sending materials from home :)
Objectives of the week:
Demonstrated knowledge of the alphabet
Demonstrates phonological awareness
Demonstrates knowledge of print and its uses
Measures and compares
Show and Tell
Sharing and having fun!

Earth Week
During the month of April we will be celebrating our planet Earth. Next week we will be having different activities where students will work with recycled material, learn about the recycling process, how to take care of our environment, and many other ‘green’ themes. On Friday April 22nd students should come dressed in green or (even better!) recycled materials. Attached to this note are a few examples.
Also, if you have bottle caps at home, (any color or size) please send them in for an activity we will be doing. Thank you!
