Principal Message
Kia ora te whānua,
Welcome to week 6, the term is certainly flying by!
It's fantastic to see parents increasingly more visible in our school at drop off and pick up times, helping in class and attending assemblies. Staff will contact you if your child is either getting an award or presenting/performing at our weekly assemblies. On Thursday 29 September we have the Witherlea School Dance Festival at Stadium 2000 between 6.30-8.00pm and we love to see a full house of supporters!
The first five weeks at Witherlea have served as an opportunity to have a really good look at how things operate and affirmed for me that the school is in a really good place.
Change presents opportunities for growth and the challenge for me is to focus our collective efforts on the right things to ensure these have a positive impact for students that can be sustained.
To ensure any change is well informed, I am seeking the perspectives of staff, parents and students. I have now met with all the staff individually which has provided valuable insight. Ariana McIntyre and Jemma Herdman have done some great work analysing data from the ‘Whānau Survey’ earlier in the year which captured the voices of over 50% of families. I am in classes daily talking to students and keen to see a student council reestablished to provide a platform to students to provide feedback and be involved in some key decisions.
If you have anything you wish to contribute to this stock take process, please either email me or make a time to meet in person. A finalised document will be shared with you shortly capturing key themes, planned actions and the ability to report on progress overtime.
The Grocery Grab raffle raised $30,400 for our school which will be used to build a scooter track for all students to use both during and out of school hours. Many thanks to Maz Terpstra and her helpers for organising this inaugural event for our school. Feel free to pop down to New World tomorrow at 7.00am to support our raffle winners in running their Grocery Grab. Good luck to Oli D with his 30 second run for selling the most tickets!
Enjoy the week of sunshine ahead!
Ngā manaakitanga,
