What is a DOCTOR ???
A doctor is a qualified practitioner of medicine.
Medical practitioners are involved in a wide range of activities including consultations, attending emergencies, performing operation and arranging medical investigations. In caring for patients, medical practitioners work with many other health practitioners. That might also have to participate in undertake research.
Medical practitioners sometimes have to deal with unpleasant conditions due to a patient’s illness or injury. Medical practitioners have to work long, demanding and irregular hours. This may include working on the weekends and at night or being on call 24 hours a day.
Education requirements ???
To become a medical practitioner you usually have to study medicine at university. To get into these courses you usually need to gain HSC year 12 with particular good results. Assumed knowledge in English, Chemistry and Physics are normally required. Some universities offer medicine as a double degree in Medicine.
Entry in these courses is highly competitive and is based on a combination of academic achievement, performance on the Undergraduate Medicine and Heath Sciences Admission Test (UMAT) and a structured interview.
You can also become a medical practitioner by completing a related medical practitioner degree, followed by a postgraduate qualification in medicine. Entry into the graduate course is based on prior completion of a bachelor degree, performance in Graduate Australian Medical School Admission Test (GAMSAT). The ATAR required is 95.00.
what interests me about this occupation ???
I am passionate about working as a Doctor in the future because I don’t like to see people suffering and people who are not treated well and then get severe diseases like Cancer, TB (Tiber closes), Aids, Asthma or people who have a disability and many more. A Doctor’s responsibility is to help people and give them a new life. Another reason I want to be a doctor is because I am interested in Science. I have the passion to improve people’s lives and the determination to reach the highest standards. There are many opportunities, I can follow a path to one of many specialists, from working in a hospital as a surgeon to being based in the community as a GP.
