Upcoming Safety Drills

All District 34 schools will meet the state requirements to hold fire, weather and lockdown drills this year. We work with the Glenview Police and Fire Departments to run these drills.

As a reminder, District 34 uses the “Lockdown with Options: Run, Hide, Fight” approach to school safety, which identifies options to be considered when responding to a school threat. This approach to an active intruder is endorsed by Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This year, lockdown drills will include both actual “run, hide, fight” exercises, as well as discussions with students about what would happen in possible scenarios, presented in an age-appropriate way to ensure students understand the options available in responding to an intruder. In both situations, teachers will emphasize two key points:

  • Hiding remains the primary response in a lockdown

  • Students’ most important task is to follow directions from the trusted adults in their building

Our next round of drills will be held in the coming days.

Per state law, parents can opt their children out of participating in lockdown drills. If you do not wish your child to participate in the upcoming drill, please email me.

Thank you to PTA for our Beautiful Playground Shades!

If you've been to our playground this year, you've seen the amazing sun shade that now covers all of the playground equipment! This was funded by our amazing PTA and will benefit every Hoffman student for years to come. These are your PTA donation dollars at work! Thank you!

Take care,

#BeWell34 News From Our Health Office

As we get closer to flu season, we want to remind families about our health and safety protocols. It is difficult for a child who is not feeling well to learn. It's best for them to stay home until they are well enough to have a positive, productive and healthy school experience. Please keep your child at home if they have:

  • Fever (temperature of 100.4°F or greater)
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Undiagnosed rash
  • Communicable diseases
  • Pink eye
  • Head lice infestation (live head lice)
There are many reasons your child could be sick, from cold and flu to COVID-19, strep throat to RSV, and oh, so much more.We encourage you to have your child evaluated by a healthcare provider to determine the cause of and best treatment for their illness.

Before a student may return to school, he/she must be free of fever, vomiting and/or diarrhea (without fever-reducing medication) for 24 hours. If a student has been prescribed antibiotic medication for a rash, communicable diseases and/or pink eye they may return to school after completing 24 hours of prescribed medication.

You can find the full attendance policies and absence reporting information on the District 34 website.
