ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Friends and Families,
We wish all of our CCS students and their families a wonderful winter break and Happy Holidays! The energy in the hallways and classrooms has been festive and fun this week!
On Thursday afternoon, we had a surprise “Big/Little” PBIS school-wide celebration to recognize the accomplishment of our students reaching the first goal of our penny jar in the lobby. Our 5-8 classrooms were paired up with our K-4 classrooms for fun and social activities and games for an hour. One of the greatest parts of being a K-8 school is our ability to do such events and we can never tell who enjoys it the most - the little kids, the big kids or the adults!
Various activities with the Charlotte Senior Center has been one way that CCS has focused on growing our community connections. On Wednesday afternoon, members of our 5th grade Chorus traveled to the Charlotte Senior Center to sing winter and holiday songs. Our CCS students were also able to share conversations with some of our Charlotte senior residents. Recently, the newest group of 6th grade students started their volunteering at the Charlotte Senior Center. The words from one of the students as we rode back to school in the car best captures the power of this collaboration: "I was so nervous before we went. I didn't know what to expect. But this was AWESOME! Bob is 97 and he was a professional cartoonist. He's going to draw a cartoon of me! Thank you so much for setting up this opportunity. I can't wait to go again!"
CCS students are reaching out and participating in the larger community as well. This week, fourteen of our middle school students attended the Empower Youth Leadership Conference.
Our third and fourth grades have recently completed large units of study focused on Charlotte (3rd) and Vermont (4th) that have integrated literacy, writing, Science and Social Studies. These classrooms hosted an Open House on Thursday morning to share their learning. The halls were full of parents, grandparents and special friends, all celebrating the excellent work done by our students!
This week, we had some fun in the library with the Dash and Dot robots! We continued to practice our coding skills in order to give the robots directions.
Warm Wishes,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra
