In addition to participating in class meetings twice a week, you are receiving work to complete. The work listed below is for the entire week. You can complete it at your own pace. All work should be submitted to your teacher by Friday night. There are 3 ELA lessons, 3 math lessons, 1 content lesson, and 2 special lessons for each week. At the bottom of this document, there are additional optional activities.

GOAL: Identify how communities work together to solve conflicts/problems

- Think about a problem you have solved before.
- Watch and listen to this video about the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill and how Alaskans worked together to protect this from happening again.

- After you have watched and listened to the video in the "Launch" lesson about what happened during the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill, think about how the community solved this major conflict/problem
- Review the cartoon and think of possible sentences the characters can say that would make sense related to the oil spill. The drawing on pg. 1 shows the Exxon Valdez oil spill.
- Fill in the speech bubble for each character. Have the characters explain the problem they want to solve.
- Create the second half of an Environmental Solution cartoon on pg. 2. Draw one way the government or the communities helped to solve the problem. Include the two characters from the first half of your cartoon. Create a speech bubble for each character. Have the characters tell how the government or the communities helped to solve the problem.
