New Grants Awarded to Flushing HS
Thank you to the following grants, the FHS Campus Library received over $11,000 worth of new books and services.
Build Grant: Over $5,000 worth of new and exciting books for you all to borrow next year.
Astor Collaborative Grant: Students learned how to create comics with guest artist Louise Diedrich and new graphic novels in English, Chinese and Spanish were added to the library.
LGBTQ BUILD UP Digital Grant: $2,000 worth of ebooks added to Sora collection
CCD Entrepreneurship Collection: $500 worth of business books, Show Me the Money
Lambda Literary Writers in Schools Project: In class visit with Camryn Garrett, author of Full Disclosure and Off the Record.
Louise Diedrich, cartoonist and author speaks to Social Justice Students, creates cartoons with students
Above are some of the cartoons drawn by students in the "super fast style". Cartoonist Louise Diedrich, from Franklin Furnace, explored the books March and Maus with our students and then taught them how to draw super fast comics. To see the complete works, click on this link:

Everyone can join a summer reading bookclub at your local library. Check out Summer Reading 2022 and find a program for you. Find "Oceans of Possibilities" the theme of the summer. There are musical performances, free book giveaways, poetry readings and more. Find the program that excites you.
