School To Work, Works!
Students of BCIT’s School To Work program earned a total of $774,544 over the course of the past year!
Our welding students are making $14 per hour at Pemfab and our Brandywine health occupation students are making $12 per hour.
This money is used by our students to help pay for college, car insurance, clothes, and to help support their family’s income at home. In addition, this money is put back into our county’s taxes and spent in other businesses, helping to create additional jobs and revenue for our community.
- Seabox employs several of our students; they were so impressed with our program, they have donated thousands of dollars to our Robotics Club
- One third of Pemfab’s employee workforce consists of BCIT graduates
- Currently, ten of our School To Work graduates are employed by Inductotherm
- OPEX employs eight School To Work graduates from our Electronics and Pre-Engineering Programs
- Radwell has employed more than 30 BCIT graduates
- Miller Ford, Lucas Chevrolet, Classic Nissan, Cherry Hill Classic Cars, and Burlington Truck Center have employed students from our Automotive/Diesel and Auto Body career majors through our School To Work program
Congratulations to our dedicated instructors. They provide the skills necessary to motivate and encourage the students to be successful in their careers. Principals, Mr. Parker and Mr. Venuto deserve tremendous praise for their support of this program and for their creative talents in juggling student schedules.

CTE Spotlight: Information Technology
According to a recent article from Forbes Magazine, data that shows the demand for computer and mathematical science jobs is greater than any other field. Additionally, it was noted that these occupations paid higher than all professions except management and law. James Schindewolf, a senior in the Information Technology program at the Westampton Campus, already knows about the demand for strong candidates in the technology field. James has been working in tech support at the Tabernacle School District for the better part of a year. He has assisted the school in updating systems for MAP and PARCC testing by manually updating over 250 computers. James is thrilled to be working in his career major and said it was “the best thing he could have asked for in a job.” He looks forward to increasing his hours this summer and pursuing a degree in computer science and business management from Rowan University at BCC.
James is well-prepared to begin his foray into the tech field. Under the tutelage of teacher Joe Rivera, James learned a diverse array of skills for his new position. James and fellow students study programming languages, diagnostics and maintenance, computer repair, operating systems, and website development. Additionally, all students recently passed their Strata IT Fundamentals exam, which provides them with a certification in knowledge of of PC components, functionality, compatibility and related technology topics. Students also earn their CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Assistant) certification, along with Network Pro.
One thing is for certain, the Information Technology students from BCIT will have an advantage when entering the college or the workforce.
