Shelby Co. Area Technology Center
Our Purpose
A Note From Our Principal
Expansion and Renovation Update!
As mentioned in our December enews, we are well under way in the planning process of the expansion and renovation of the Shelby County Area Technology Center. On January 12, our architects once again met with our staff as we finalize plans. Construction crews will be on sight this Spring as we begin expansion on the north side of our existing building toward Wright Elementary School. This work will be completed by the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year.
The new areas have many features that we are excited about. We will be adding two new lab spaces, a Presentation Room where students can demonstrate learning and understanding, and a much larger entry way so students can collaborate and learn from each other. We will also be adding two new programs, diesel technology and welding. When we listened to our stakeholders, we felt these two programs would benefit our workforce and community for years to come.
The inside of our current building will be receiving a facelift as well. There will be some work completed during the summer of 2016 with the majority of the renovation taking place during the summer of 2017. There will be new flooring, lighting, HVAC, additional classrooms, and the reconfiguration of existing classrooms.
As you can see, there will be numerous exciting changes taking place over the next couple of years. We look forward to the process and the results that we will all benefit from in the Fall of 2017. Below you will find a floor plan that should give you some insight into what the final product will look like. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 633-6554.
Spring Testing!
Starting in late February and continuing into March, spring testing will begin for 139 of our sophomore, junior and senior students. Students that have reached preparatory status (completed at least 2 courses in a pathway and enrolled in the 3rd course in that same pathway) will complete an industry certification test for their specific pathway and the Kentucky Occupational Skills Standards Assessment (KOSSA). Receiving a passing score on at least one of these test is an important step towards Career Readiness. More information regarding these assessments will be in the February enews.
Career and Technical Education Month
February is Career and Technical Education month! We will be emphasizing to our students the numerous benefits of CTE. These include relevant skill development, career opportunities, duel credit/tuition savings, hands on work place learning, and much more.

Green Mustang Project
Being able to learn basic electricity and being able to go out in the shop allows me to put what I've learned into practice. Learning all this will help me with becoming a diesel mechanic. I'm learning basic electricity and actually going out in the shop and using that knowledge to make a car run with newer technology. All of my experiences will help me out in the future.

Medical History Museum “Back to the Future”
Students studied the history of health care and those who contributed to the evolution of health care. Students created futuristic devices that could solve real-world health problems and displayed them in the “museum” January 19, 2016. Parents and the community was invited. We had a large turn out and students definitely had some very innovative pieces exhibited.
