Analysis
The songwriter describes a hero as someone that pushes through fear and hopelessness; a hero is someone that finds strength where others do not. They also state that everyone has the potential to be a hero.
Beowulf is a hero that wins despite the odds stacked against him. Even against opponents as strong as Grendel and his mother, who have slaughtered countless men, he emerges victorious. Beowulf rises to the hopeless task of defeating a seemingly invincible monster and carries on despite the disadvantage he faces.
Although my mother has not slain any monsters she can still be considered a hero. When I had given up in the past and lost all hope, she would give me the strength I needed. Her unconditional support and love has proven to be invaluable countless times.
