Mariachi is a form of folk music from Mexico. The word mariachi refers to musicians who are commonly seen in restaurants or strolling the streets, dressed in studded charro outfits with wide brimmed hats playing a variety of instruments.
History of Mariachi
Mariachi was created hundreds of years ago. It was created in the 19th century in the state of Jalisco. By the 1950's, Mariachi ensemble was becoming more flexible and orchestral without loosing its traditional base.

Characteristics of Mariachi
There are many instruments used in an mariachi band. The main instruments that are used are the violin, guitar, trumpet, guitarron and the vihuela. mariachi is usually played at special celebrations like weddings. They are also incorporated with roman catholic churches.
Connection to Dance
The traditional dance that is associated with mariachi is son jalisciense and son jarocho is the zapateado, a type of footwork that originated in Spain. When dancing the zapateado the performers drive the heels of their boots or shoes into the dance-floor, pounding out swift, often rhythms which complement the different rhythm of the musical instruments.
The Music Today
Mariachi music will remain the same and follow its traditional ways. Mariachi groups with still wear the same outfits they play today and play the same instruments as well. Mariachi will always be played at special events and many marriages.
