Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical engineers build a lot of important things. From elevator shafts to car motors and even spacecraft! However, math is an important subject to master if you want to become a mechanical engineer.
Education Needed
- Calculus I and II
- Geometry
- Trigonometry
- Algebra
- Statistics
- A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical engineering
- A certificate in some cases
- Sometimes past experience.
Uses of math
Mechanical engineers use math to calculate the needed materials and the size of these materials. Also, math is used with the laws of nature. In the case of a space shuttle, the mechanical engineer in charge would need to calculate the appropriate thickness of metal, or the shuttle will melt at terminal velocity.
Wages
As of May 2014, the annual wages are from $53,210 to $126,430. The average yearly wage is $82,100 for most areas in the US.
