It is hard to believe next week we will see the start of Spring! Temperatures however are up and down so please have children wear coats because the weather does not always cooperate.

During 3rd grade PIE time we learned about Folktales and Author's point of view. We read a Navajo Folktale, "The Weaver of Rugs," and brought it to life by making our own weavings. These 3rd graders are very artistic with their weaving designs!
First grade celebrated Pi this week Reading style :) During PIE time we made pizza "Pi" by matching the pizza toppings to the correct pizza "Pi" vowel sound!

Standards Based Grading
The Methacton School District uses a standards-based grading system for students in grades K-4. This system helps us more accurately measure students’ mastery of PA Core Academic Standards in all subjects. The elementary report cards have been revised to reflect the changes to the state standards and Methacton’s curricula. The goal of this approach to reporting is to provide parents, students, and teachers with a detailed picture of what students know and are able to demonstrate. The information provided on the report card encourages dialogue about areas of strength and need, and how our students can continue to grow academically.

As your child’s teacher explained during our Back-to-School night, I CAN statements have been developed to share with you what skills your child is being assessed on and the expectation of mastery for each trimester. The I CAN statements are listed on our MSD Family Center.

o Teacher's name
o Day and date your child will be absent
o Reason for your child's absence
You must call the Attendance line if your child is going to be absent or late and give the reason for the absence.

Student Self-Screening Checklist
Please review the Student Self-Screening Checklist with your student every morning before school. If they have 2 symptoms from the first category OR 1 symptom from the second category please keep them home. Call the Absence line (610) 831- 5325 and report your student absent and symptomatic. Your student should be tested for Covid-19 and results sent to the school nurse. We are requiring a negative test result before your student can return to school. Please call Mrs. Cramer our school nurse for any questions. She can be reached at (610) 489-5000 extension 41206.
