Building your portfolio
Updates for Laura's JHU Portfolio Candidates Fall 16
Updates on Module #1 Learner and Learning
Good to be back in touch with everyone today!
First, I wanted to offer a brief apology and explanation as to why I've been out of touch. I'm sorry for being MIA. I've been ill for the last week and a half, coupled with a particularly busy two weeks at my own full time classroom job. I am actively answering emails. Please, don't hesitate to email, text, or cold call me if you have questions or need help!
Second, I wanted to update all of you on the grading and feedback process for your first modules. I am further behind then I would like to be at this point due to my illness. Be looking for an email message from me and checking blackboard/JHBox over the next three to four days for that rubric mark-up and feedback on the first module.
And finally, I wanted to touch base about expectations for Framework, which is due this Sunday. Read below for more information.
Best,
Laura
Framework Due September 25th
Think of Framework as more of a checklist-y uploading various files type of experience, rather than crafting a module of three standards. In that respect, Framework should be a lot less time-consuming and a sort of break between the intensely layered Learner and Learning Module and Content Knowledge Module.
Framework = Context
Framework Overview
- Criteria for the photo keep it professional, no selfies
- Criteria for the resume two page max, you don't HAVE to use the template on blackboard if you don't want to
- Criteria for classroom vision and goals **Tricky for most folks - Directions are purposely vague - This is essentially where a candidate lays out their vision and goals for their classroom. This can come from a current year or a previous year. Ideally, it would be from the year where you are pulling a lot of evidence from for your portfolio. Really the only expectation is for the .doc to discuss these four categories: 1 Pathways to Opportunity, 2 Academic Achievement, 3 Long-term Traits and Mindsets, 4 Student Interests and Aspirations. TFA teachers should have something very similar to this already because they had to create it for their regions. <-- Use that as a starter.
- Criteria for site descriptions **Something you do need to spend the most time on, especially if you have had multiple placements. This .doc gives the context about actual teaching placement. This should be 1 page, single-spaced max. Look at the criteria for this in blackboard very carefully. It lists exactly what you need to do. **If you have taught in multiple placements, you need multiple site descriptions. If you taught multiple grades at one school, you would have one site description with one paragraph about the school and multiple pragraphs for each placement grade. <-- Multiple placements would mean you need multiple 1 page documents.
