HES List Server Message
April 26, 2018
Hello Holland Elementary Families,
It was another great week at HES, and hopefully your child came home with positive stories about their days at school. Last Friday, our students made 243 Jared Boxes for young patients at St. Christopher's Hospital. The students seemed to enjoy our Day of Service, and they embraced the idea of working together to help others. Thank you, again, to all of the families who provided items for the boxes and the HES PTO for helping to make our project a success.

Children's Book Week
Next week is Children’s Book Week (April 30th – May 6th). Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. Established in 1919, it is the annual celebration of books for young people and for the joy of reading.
Each year during Children’s Book Week, events are held nationwide at schools, libraries, bookstores, homes, and wherever young readers and books connect. More information can be found through Reading Is Fundamental at http://everychildareader.net/
Reading Is Fundamental is proud to partner and support Children’s Book Week. To celebrate a great week of encouraging children to connect with books, RIF is proud to share some former Children’s Book Winners for kindergarten through second grade that have free corresponding resources available in Literacy Central. An important item to note is that these winning books are the only national book awards chosen by kids.
With this year’s theme, One World, Many Stories, RIF would also like to encourage you to share folktales, fairy tales, myths, and legends from across the globe with our Google Earth partnership, Voyager Stories. Each story takes students on a historical and geographic adventure with links to places where the story began and where the version explored is set. This allows your students to see what those places look like today and connect the story.
