Linden Leopard Growl
February 3, 2021
What A Way to Kick Off February!
We finally had a big snow storm! It has been quite a few years since a storm like this has hit Bucks County. I hope you had some time to embrace the joy that comes from playing in the snow. If you happened to take a few snowy photos of your child(ren), please consider uploading them to your child's classroom yearbook picture site. The pictures may be used for our website, The Growl, and/or the Linden Yearbook. See full details below in our Linden Home & School section.
Asynchronous Snow Days: Please know that any work students are required to do, must be submitted within one week of the assigned date to be considered present (attendance) and complete (feedback given/graded). This model will certainly allow for students to engage in asynchronous learning activities, while still having time for some fun in the snow. If you have specific questions regarding your child's assignments, please reach out to your child's teacher.
Friendly February: Linden follows the Action for Happiness organization, which strives to promote kindness and happiness. This month has been called "Friendly February". Please see the calendar below with small acts to promote friendliness, no matter your age.
National School Counselors Week: This week marks National School Counselors Week. We are fortunate to have Dr. Graziosi-Hibbs who continues to provide compassion and support for all of our students, staff, and families at Linden. Thank you to all of the CBSD counselors for all they do to support our students and families.
As always, thank you for your ongoing support! Stay safe and warm!
Sincerely,
Mike Testani
A Spelling Bee to Remember!
On Friday, January 29th, our Linden Leopards participated in the 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee. Our distinguished spellers from 4th, 5th, and 6th grade competed for the title of 2021 Linden Spelling Bee Champion. This year's Spelling Bee, like many scholastic events in 2020/2021, was unique in that students competed both virtually and in-person.
The competition was broadcast for all students in the intermediate grades to share in support of their classmates. It came down to the final three: Vada Houser, Connor Klebek, and Finnegan Haddon. After one hour and 45 minutes of competing, Connor Klebek emmerged as the victor with Vada placing 2nd and Finnegan earning 3rd place. A valiant effort from all students who participated.
Kudos to the following grade level representatives who competed with poise and grace this year. We are all very proud of each of you.
6th Grade: Theo Lentze, Sophia Leone, Madeleine Moore, Liam Zwanch, Patrick Tierney
5th Grade: Maggie Betteridge, Maxxim Broeke, Avery Guerriero, Finnegan Haddon, Connor
Klebek, Hailey Trifonidis
4th Grade: Avantika Balina, Vada Houser, Aidan Huang, Waylon Kerrigan, Daniel Lubacz,

A special thank you to Mrs. Nolt, and this year's Spelling Bee committee: Mrs. Detwiler, Mrs. Free, Mrs. Logue, Mrs. Rauch, Mrs. Rubeo, and Mr. Yannarella. Coordinating this year's event was challenging and you all did an outstanding job!

Student Absences
In-Person Absences: Students will be marked absent if they are not in school that day. If the student should be physically present but is participating virtually due to COVID related concerns, the teacher will mark the attendance as "Participating Virtually". This will give the student credit for attendance.
Online Absences: If a student does not attend class, the student will be marked absent until we receive the communication from parents. Note: If a student logs-in initially, but leaves the call or does not engage, the comment "Virtually Cut" will be added to the comments section.
Appointments: If a student has to leave for an appointment, please email their teacher and 'cc Cyndi Faville as well.
Please contact Cindy Faville in the Linden Main office at 267-893-4402 or email at cfaville@cbsd.org with any questions.
HELPFUL LINKS
The winter is in full force. It gets dark early and it is cold outside. What can families do during this time? Click Counselor's Corner for some suggestions.
Social Emotional Learning and Second Step
Social Emotional Learning and Second Step
The Social Emotional Learning (SEL) themes students are focused on learning during the months of January and February are empathy and emotion management. Throughout the school year, we will be reminding students to have empathy, identify their own and others’ feelings, notice and respect same and different feelings, and show compassion. Compassion involves saying kind words or doing something helpful to show you care how another person feels. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.
As a friendly reminder, parents may access the grade level home links to extend these conversations further at home. Below you will see how to access the digital Home Link’s to further support you and your family. In order to access these resources, parents and/or guardians of students in grades K-5 can access the website, www.secondstep.org, create an account, and then enter the activation code below for the grade level your child is enrolled in.
For parents and/or guardians of sixth graders, please access the website, www.parenteenconnect.org. Thank you for supporting your child in learning the skills that lead to success in school and in life.
Questions about COVID-19?
As the COVID cases rise in the community, the Central Bucks Nurses are working hard to keep everyone healthy and safe. Our school nurse, Mrs. Tina Boyer, is here to help! If you have questions, feel free to email or call her. She can help with:
- Determine if your child(ren) is a close contact.
- Explain the isolation and quarantine process.
- Provide guidance for symptoms and management.
- And more! .... just ask.
Mrs. Tina Boyer's email address is tboyer@cbsd.org, or call the Linden main office at 267-893-4401 to be connected to the Health Room.

Family Travel Update
If your child(ren) will be traveling this Spring season, please complete a Request for Approved Absence Form. Out of an abundance of caution, students who travel must refrain from in-person instruction.
In compliance with the district's Health and Safety Plan, students who travel will not be able to return for a period of 10 days without testing, or after 7 days with a negative test on or after day 5. Any questions about this procedure can be directed to Cindy Faville in the Linden Office, at cfaville@cbsd.org.
Live-Streaming
Virtual instruction is available for any student who is absent more than 2 days for COVID related causes, such as illness or travel.
Once a teacher is notified, we will make arrangements including a materials pick-up at school. Live streaming will begin on day 3 of the absence, or earlier if feasible. This instruction may vary slightly depending upon the academic needs and age of the student. Note: knowing that the majority of students in the class are in-person, there will be times when the teacher is not in camera view.
YEARBOOK VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
With this school year looking completely different, our yearbook committee needs your help. We are looking for one volunteer per classroom to help design the classroom yearbook page! The process is very easy, and can be completed in a minimal amount of time from your own home. Once we have our volunteers, directions will be sent out on how to design the page. Click here to sign up! Thank you!

iRun4Life Fitness App Announcement
As you know, our iRun4Life after school running programs and 3K Race were unfortunately cancelled last March due to the pandemic, and will most likely will be cancelled again in spring 2021. And as the colder months approach and we move indoors for longer periods of time, students will need an outlet for exercise. This got us thinking about a creative and fun way to keep children exercising and healthy in a safe environment – which led to the development of a new, free iRun4Life Fitness App designed specifically for elementary school age children.
Key Features of the iRun4Life Fitness App for kids include:
- Running & Fitness – 4 weeks of training with Warm Up videos, weekly Running Tasks, Cool Down Videos, and Extra Workout videos that are fun and kid friendly. There is a stopwatch to help you time your runs as well. Videos will be updated monthly.
- Log your Miles – Children can log their miles onto our iRun4Life portal directly from the app. Simply log in with a parent email address and child’s first name.
- Yoga & Dance – Fun kid friendly yoga and dance videos that can be done at home with your friends and family. Videos will be updated monthly.
- Healthy Recipes – Delicious kid friendly recipes for Snacks, Meals, and Desserts that are easy to make and cook with your family. Includes gluten free and vegetarian options too. Recipes will be updated monthly.
The iRun4Life Fitness App is free and can be downloaded on all Apple and Android devices- simply search in the app store for “iRun4Life.”
Parents can feel confident knowing their children can easily log in to our iRun4Life Fitness App, and get all the exercise they need and have fun at the same time. We are pleased and proud to share our iRun4Life Fitness App with all your elementary school students, as we continue to fight this pandemic and help combat childhood obesity through exercise and healthy nutrition.
Thank you,
Judy Wexler, President
