Worthingway Middle School Updates
1/8/2021
Dear Families,
Happy New Year! We are excited to welcome students back to the building for Hybrid learning next week. Monday, January 11 will be a 'blue' day. I've included the Hybrid schedule below. Next week will be a very busy week for all of us and we cannot wait!
I worry that we have become 'fatigued' by all of the COVID news. Please know and share with your student(s) that we will continue to stress (and re-teach, as needed) our safety guidelines. Students will all be expected and reminded to wear masks, socially distance, follow one-way hallway traffic expectations, utilize hand sanitizer upon entry and exit of classrooms, and sanitize work spaces and devices at the end of classes. We will continue not to use lockers, students will be seated 6 feet apart at our lunches, and students will continue to be in 10-12 person pods during our Community Time when we can go outside. If we are indoor for Community Time our students will be seated in our gym bleachers, 6 feet apart.
I am excited to share that WCS employees have begun receiving the COVID vaccination. Assistant Superintendent Randy Banks has worked diligently with our local health department to make this possible for our District employees. We are hopeful that all WCS staff that choose to get the vaccination, will receive their first dose by the end of January!
We will have Way Days and school photo retakes next week. Way Days celebrate student success and provide students with additional support in classes where they may be struggling. Way Day will be at the end of the day on Wednesday and Thursday. Students will receive more information about Way Day during their assist class on Monday and Tuesday. School photo retakes and photos for any student who did not take a school picture in November will be on Wednesday and Friday during 1st period - please find more information below. If you have not received your student's photo packet from our November photo days, these will be distributed during their assist class on Monday and Tuesday or you may stop by the office to pick them up.
Have a great weekend. Go Bucks and Browns!
Sincerely,
Mr. Kellenberger
School Pictures
We plan to distribute pictures to students during Assist on Monday and Tuesday. If you would like your student's pictures before then, please stop by the Worthingway office M-F 8:00-4:00pm.
If you did not have a chance to order school pictures and you would like to, there is information in your child's envelope on how to order them.
If a student did not take a school photo in November, they are welcome to take one on Wednesday, 1/13 or Friday, 1/15.
You may visit mylifetouch.com with our Picture Day ID: EVTR2S467 or ask your student to pick-up an order form in the office if you would like to place an order.
If you purchased photos and would like the photo retaken, please send the original photo order back to school with your student on their retake day. The photographers need to scan the packet to make sure the student is getting the correct package ordered with the retake image.
Please call the office if you have any questions, 614-450-4300.
Buddy Box Meal Opportunities
Worthingway continues to partner with the Family Mentor Foundation to provide Buddy Boxes. We have many families participating already, and would love to be able to provide for even more. Families who sign up will receive a small box of non-perishable food items for students to take home each Thursday or Friday. This box should be small enough to fit into a student's backpack. We will work out a system to pass out these boxes that works for your student. If you are interested in this, please email Mrs. Fei at nfei@wscloud.org. (If you already receive a Buddy Box, no need to re-enroll at this time.)
8th Grade Families: TWHS/WKHS Scheduling
High school scheduling is starting. Mrs. Fei will be sharing a lot of information with our 8th graders over the coming weeks. This will include whole group and individual scheduling support and high school program information, likely via videos shared in assist AND in the school newsletter. Below is a timeline of upcoming events. As a reminder, current 8th grade students, who attend Slate Hill Elementary School, will attend Worthington Kilbourne High School next year. Information will be updated on our school website.
Timeline:
1/25 and 1/26: Curriculum Night videos shared.
1/26 and 1/27: Mrs. Fei to Social Studies classes to explain registration. Registration cards passed out (due back 2/2 and 2/3).
2/2 and 2/3: Signed registration cards due. Mrs. Fei to Social Studies to support student registration (students will physically register for high school classes at this time).
Mrs. Fei will contact OOLP families directly to provide support.
