St. Columba Catholic School - News every Friday - 11/6/20
I want to start my message this week with a big THANK YOU!
Thank you to all of the parents and students that sent in letters of appreciation for our Teachers and Staff. I know from the teachers that they loved them! I had multiple teachers sending me pictures and quotes of some amazing and cute messages! Thank you for the love!
Also, when the news broke about our positive COVID test on campus, I was naturally nervous and concerned. In the two days that have passed since then, it has been nothing but support! The amount of parents that reached out to ask about the child, to offer prayers for the child, to see if the teachers or staff needed anything, to offer to take up a collection if the child was very sick, and to simply let me know that we all support each other, has been so great! Once again, I feel so blessed to be a part of such a wonderful community! While the last few days have been a real challenge for me and for our school, each of you have made it a little bit easier, and for that, I am grateful!
Next week, we do not have school on Monday. We determined that taking a 3 day weekend and following it with a 4 day school week was better than 2 days on, 1 day off, 2 days on. While I recognize that this may pose some inconveniences, I appreciate your flexibility in supporting a more balanced schedule for our students next week. Plus, we have a great opportunity to celebrate and recognize the Veteran's of our community on the actual Veteran's Day. If you would like to participate, please see the info below.
Finally, starting on Tuesday next week, we will be kicking off our Annual Car Raffle. Usually, this raffle is part of our Fall Festival, but because of COVID restrictions, that was just not possible this year. The Raffle is our largest fundraiser of the year. Last year, we made over $55,000 after expenses. This year, our goal is $60,000. To do that, we will need to reach between in $75,000-$80,000 in total sales. I know we can do it! More info will be coming out on Tuesday, but be ready to reach out to friends and loved ones for this great cause. The biggest difference this year is that we will be conducting the raffle online. It is our hope that this will allow us to reach a greater amount of people and increase our overall fundraising efforts. More to come next week.
Here is a look ahead at the upcoming events on campus:
- Monday, November 9: NO SCHOOL (PRE-8th) for Veteran's Day
- Tuesday, November 10: Beginning of St. Columba Car Raffle
- Wednesday, November 11: Veteran's Day Assembly (9:15am via Zoom, info below)
- Thursday, November 12:
- Friday, November 13:
Parent Teacher Conferences Update
Parent Teacher Conferences went really well this year! Thank you for your flexibility this year with the conferences being virtual.
Many thanks to our teachers for preparing and carrying out the conferences to strengthen the School-Home partnership!
If you missed your time slot or did not sign up for a conference, please reach out to your child's teacher ASAP so that you can get a time scheduled before or after school next week.
Veteran's Day Assembly and Request
Mrs. Bunker and the 5th grade class will be hosting a very special Veteran's Day (Virtual) Assembly on Wednesday, November 11th!
To make this assembly extra special, we are requesting that we connect with our Veterans and Active Duty or Reserve Service Members in two special ways.
First of all, we are requesting that any veteran, active duty, or reserve service member who wishes to share his/her story and why he/she joined the military and chose to defend our country send in a short video to Mrs. Bunker.
Additionally, Mrs. Bunker will be collecting photographs of veterans from our families and communities to create a slideshow as part of the assembly. Please feel free to send one in to Mrs. Bunker following the directions included in the attachment below.
To join the Zoom on Wednesday, follow the Zoom info below.
