The West Linn-Wilsonville School Board held a regular meeting on Monday, March 12. The following are select highlights from that meeting.
District Provides Safety/Security Presentation
Emergency Preparedness and Response
Dr. Ludwig shared a bit about the District's Emergency Preparedness and Response procedures, including Standard Response Protocols, the District Emergency Operations Plan, Required Staff Trainings, Alert Notifications, and Inspections. She also mentioned the District's partnership with Emergency Responders, including bi-annual joint safety meetings with local law enforcement and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue. The District also has two School Resource Officers (SROs), with one through the West Linn Police Department and one through Wilsonville/Clackamas County Sheriff's Office. Dr. Ludwig also explained the District's 3-tiered approach to reviewing, revising, and implementing school safety and security.
Information Technologies Director Curtis Nelson shared information on Digital Safety in the school district, including data security and confidentiality, digital citizenship, and common sense media. He and Dr. Ludwig also shared improved communication efforts the District has made in recent years, as well as Emergency Communications that are in place for district staff, parents, and students.
The District Safety Presentation also included recent and safety upgrades, including a new Data Center System, Intercom System, Video Surveillance at all WLWV schools, School Messenger, Emergency Radio System, and Redundant Power Supply. Upcoming safety upgrades include safety features in front entrances to schools andf new entryway remodels at Boeckman Creek, Bolton, and West Linn High School.

Board Declares Budget Committee Opening
The District will publish the vacancy in the West Linn Tidings and Wilsonville Spokesman in the coming days, as well as on the District website. Applicants will be asked to submit forms to the District Office, and those applicants will be interviewed by the Board at the April 2 Board Meeting.
"We all want to sincerely thank Kathryn for the work that she has done for our Budget Committee in the past and wish her the very best in her new location," said Business Manager Doug Middlestetter.
Board Reports
Board Members also took time on Monday night to share recent events they've attended and participated in. Director Betty Reynolds shared a few of the many activities and initiatives she's participated in during the past month, including volunteer judging at the CREST-Jane Goodall Science Symposium, working with the West Linn Interact Club, attending meetings for the West Linn Alliance for Inclusive Community, participating in Community Living Above events, as well as the National School Boards Association Advocacy Institute.
High School Reports
Ellie informed the Board of the many exciting things currently taking place at West Linn High School. In particular, she said students were excited about success of the Cheer and Dance teams, swim team, and Unified Basketball Team. The boys basketball team made a deep run into the playoffs, meanwhile, while the girls team experienced their best season every, finishing third in all of Oregon. The WLHS Speech and Debate team has experienced recent success, and two Mock Trial teams advanced to State Competition after strong regional performances. The school's new robotics team, 2B Determined, had a great showing in its FIRST Robotics Competition district competition over the weekend, WLHS Thespians recently represented in competitions, and Orchestra and Choir students are gearing up for State Competition.
Kara Hix, Wilsonville High School:
Senior Kara Hix shared Wilsonville Robotics Team Error Code Xero's weekend success, taking first place among 37 teams in the District Competition they hosted for the sixth-straight year. The school is also gearing up for its annual Doernbecher Day Auction, raising money in the form of donations as well as canned food. Students are readying for AP testing, as well as Prom and Springfest which are just around the corner. Kara made sure to congratulate the WHS Dance team and their recent performance at the State Competition, as well as the boys basketball team's second-place finish at State. She also thanked West Linn High for hosting the district-wide CREST-Jane Goodall Science Symposium last week.
Kaya Williams, Arts and Technology High School:
Kaya said Arts and Technology High School students are looking forward to the District Art Show, which invites aspiring young artists across the West Linn-Wilsonville School District for one major art exhibition. Art Tech hosts the event every year, drawing large audiences of students and community members. She added that the school's Rock Band continues to impress, and that students are in a groove as spring break approaches and everyone prepares for the homestretch of the school year. Art Tech's culinary students are also thriving as they settle into their new classroom kitchen, Kaya said.
Upcoming Meetings and Dates
Spring Break: March 26-30 — There will be NO SCHOOL during the week of March 26-30 in observance of Spring Break.
Regular Board Meeting: Monday, April 2 — The West Linn-Wilsonville School District will host a regular board meeting on April 2 starting at 6 p.m. at the District Office; 22210 SW Stafford Road, Tualatin.
End of Term (middle and high schools): April 6 — The last day of the term is Friday, April 6.
