CIS Weekly Updates
2022-2023 #9 October 17-21
PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
Grade cards come home on Friday! Hopefully all students have maximized their potential this quarter and their grades reflect those efforts. If not, then we encourage students to set new goals for the 2nd quarter. Now is a good time for students to take responsibility for their learning and work towards setting goals. Thanks again for all that you do to support your child with their educational journey.
As a reminder, every student needs to have a pair of headphones to use with their computer. We still have students who don't have a set here at school. Please talk to your child about whether or not they have a need for a set of headphones.
The temperatures dropped a lot this week. It is important that students have hats, coats and possibly gloves with them so they are warm while out on the playground. Many students were cold out on the playground today. We understand that some of this may be due to students refusing to wear a hat or coat. If you could have a conversation at home then that would be great!
Have a GREAT week!

Why Does Good School Attendance Matter?
Showing up matters for R.E.A.L. It is an opportunity to:
Build Routines
Increase Engagement
Provide Access to resources
Support Learning
Routines: Daily attendance routines, created at home or in school, can reduce stress for students and families and create a sense of safety and security, especially after chaotic transitions.
Engagement: Being in school helps students to get to know peers, teachers and school staff, and to create trusting relationships that motivate students to participate in learning.
Access to Resources: Schools help students and families gain access to basic resources such as meals, physical and mental health services, and fun enrichment activities including sports, clubs, music, afterschool and summer programs.
Learning: Learning is most meaningful when it is active, social, and allows students to apply concepts to real life situations. Showing up to school regularly helps students engage in learning that builds proficiency in reading and math that will help them to graduate from high school.ENCORE SCHEDULE FOR OCTOBER

COVID-19 & ILLNESS AT CIS
ODH recommends schools follow general isolation procedures from the CDC for confirmed cases. If students or staff feel sick or suspect they might have COVID-19, they should stay home and take a rapid test. If positive, students and staff should stay home from school for at least 5 days and longer if necessary until fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication) and symptoms are improving. Additionally, after isolation ends, students and staff should continue to take precautions as they resume normal activities by wearing a mask for 5 days (or after two negative tests 48 hours apart).
