Re-Opening 2020-2021 - July 30 Letter from Superintendent Kultgen
Families –
As we communicated yesterday (July 29), the Snohomish Health District has recommended that all districts in the county begin the 2020-2021 school year using a remote learning model. The Snohomish Health District, in making its recommendation, shared its concerns about widespread in-person instruction this fall given the current community transmission rate data and the evolving science around COVID-19.
This evening our School Board voted to begin the 2020-2021 school year in the Snohomish School District in a remote learning model for all students in grades pre K-12. The situation surrounding COVID-19 is rapidly evolving, and we are committed to adapting our plans and providing quality instruction for all of our students in a safe manner.
We pledge that remote learning this September will look very different than the spring. We appreciate all of the input we have received from students, staff, families and our community, and we have been busy this summer building a remote learning model that will best serve our students. In the coming weeks, you will hear more about schedules, attendance, grading and expectations. Students and families will also receive more information and support to make sure they have what they need to be successful in the remote learning model.
As a district we are committed to have in-classroom instruction as soon as we are safely able to do so. Our staged re-opening plan and roadmap to learning will be determined by the impacts of a changing COVID-19 pandemic, available resources, direction from Snohomish Health District, OSPI and Governor Jay Inslee. Districts such as ours must be able to adapt and move quickly from remote learning to a hybrid learning model and back. You can learn more about our roadmap at www.sno.wednet.edu/reopening.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We are committed to providing the best education possible and will continue to focus on supporting all of our students and families. I am confident we will be stronger as a district and community as we navigate our way forward.
Stay safe and stay healthy.
Kent Kultgen
Superintendent

ECEAP fall enrollment
The Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program, or ECEAP, is a child development program for children aged 3 or 4 and their families. Children who experience poverty, homelessness, or are living in foster or kinship care, or are adopted from foster or kinship care, as well as children receiving special education services with the school district, are prioritized.
Although the school district will start the year through remote learning, ECEAP is still enrolling students and offering family support coaching, teacher check-ins, resources, educational activities, as well as online family support groups and informational classes to help ready your child for school. Traffic safety/driver's education update
For many years, the Snohomish School District has been able to offer a Traffic Safety Education (Driver’s Ed) Program administered by Northwest Educational Service District (NWESD). Unfortunately, due to lack of staff, the NWESD has notified our district that it will not be able to run a traffic safety/driver’s education program on our school campuses in 2020-2021. We are aware of a number of private traffic safety/driver’s education programs in our community. Those include 911 Driving School, Defensive Driving School, Safe2Go Driving School, Swerve Driving School and Xcelerate Driving School … to name a few.
For those students who have gone through the NWESD’s Traffic Safety Education Program and have not completed their state testing, the NWESD has indicated it will follow through with that testing process and will be on contact with students/families directly.
