Dear Parents, Grandparents and Caregivers in the OLC Community,
Welcome to Term 4
We welcome all members of our school community to the last term of the school year. In particular, we extend a special welcome to new families. It is also great to have Mrs Delane and Mrs Martin back on board after their long service leave.
This term parents can attend all assemblies and masses, as we move to a phase of living with COVID – 19 in the world. We request that if you are feeling unwell or have COVID symptoms to please not attend school events.
Please check our term calendar regularly as there are many events taking place this term. To give you some time to plan for these events we have included some of the important dates in this newsletter.
Term 4 Uniforms
A reminder that the first two weeks are a transition time from winter to summer uniforms, depending on the weather your child may wear either winter or summer uniform.
Over the course of last term, the uniform lost property bin filled to overflowing with unclaimed items of clothing. To assist with the return of lost items we request that parents label all items of school uniform. Also please remove any name tags from second hand uniforms as it is confusing when we attempt to find the owners.
Congratulations Mrs Murphy
This week Mrs Paula Murphy attended a special function in Perth to acknowledge and reward her for 30 years of excellence in teaching in Catholic Education. We are so fortunate to have Mrs. Murphy teaching at OLC. Keep up the great work Paula.
Grandparents & Special People Afternoon
Grandparents (and Special People) are most welcome to come into school at 1.30 pm on Friday 28 October. They will be treated to afternoon tea, welcomed into the classrooms and attend our special assembly.
Pope Francis told the World Youth Day crowds in Brazil. “How important grandparents and older people are for family life. Children and the elderly build the future of peoples: children because they lead history forward, the elderly because they transmit the experience and wisdom of their lives. This relationship and this dialogue between generations is a treasure to be preserved and strengthened.”
When: Friday, October 28th 1.30pm – 3.00pm
Where: Our Lady of the Cape Primary School
Program
1.30pm: Join us for afternoon tea in the school hall.
1.50pm: Classroom visits with your grandchildren.
2.30pm: A special assembly from Year 5R in the school hall.
A note will come home regarding this date. Please rsvp to your child’s teacher by Friday 21st October for catering purposes. Thank you.
Pupil Free Day
Please note in your calendars that Friday 11th November is a Pupil Free Day.
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
All members of our school community are invited to attend our School AGM on Wednesday 23 November at 5:30pm. As a Catholic School we provide opportunities for parents and caregivers of the school to meet, share and become a community that supports and encourages our students and staff. Through participation on our School Advisory Council (SAC) or Parents and Friends Association (P & F) parents can make a valuable contribution to our school. I encourage parents and caregivers to consider joining our SAC or P & F. Nominations also available from the school office.
End of year Christmas Concert
Our end of year Christmas Concert will be held on the oval on Wednesday 7 December commencing at 5.30pm. The students will be showcasing their dancing and musical skills that they have been practising with Mrs Haines and Mrs King.

Community Christmas Carols in the Park Volunteers:
The Dunsborough Progress Association is looking for 10 OLC students who would be willing to make a brief appearance on stage during the annual “Carols in the Park” Nativity play in Lions Park on December 16th at 6.00pm. Roles are minimal and non-speaking, and include Jesus, Mary, Wise Men, Angels and Shepherds. Costumes can be provided. Similarly I will require the same actors for the Children's Christmas Eve Mass at 6.00pm on the 24th December. If your child would be interested in being involved in either or both of these events, please email me at amie.meyer@cewa.edu.au
Weekly Community Dinner
Fancy a night of cooking weekly and a chance to get to know new friends? For a donation of your choosing, anyone from the Dunsborough community can enjoy delicious home cooked meals and meet members beyond the OLC community, many of whom would love someone to chat to. Dinners run Tuesdays from 5.00pm - 6.00pm at the centre on Gibney St, and takeaway is also available (Please BYO containers). Thanks to our Year 6 students who Make Jesus Real weekly by helping to set up for these dinners.
Year 6 Graduation Celebration
Our year 6 Students will mark their final day of primary schooling with a Graduation Service held at Our Lady of the Southern Cross church on the morning of Friday the 9th of December. This will be followed by a morning tea at the church supplied by the Year 5 parent cohort and funded by the OLC P&F. We would love to see the parents and grandparents of our graduating students attend. All OLC families are welcome to farewell the class of 2022 on the day.
