IN OUR CLASSROOMS
RIDER TEACHERS RAISE THE BAR
Coach Wuthrich has high expectations for our students.
To provide feedback to her students she returns prior day graded bell-ringer quizzes and has students pair up to discuss and correct the quiz. After students correct the quizzes, she works any problems her students have.
Coach Ciuba's Student-Centered Classroom.
Coach Ciuba creates a student-centered classroom by having students participate in Socratic questioning--the students write their own questions and lead the discussions on their own. This type of student-lead discussion gives students skills and strategies that they can use beyond the classroom.
Ms. Jones skillfully uses probing questioning with extended wait time.
Increased wait time gives all students a chance to think about the question. Once a student's name is called, the other brains in the room shut off. A good questioning technique is to ask a question, wait, and then ask for a response. Everyone has time to think about a response because no one know who will be called on. The responses will be considerably better because everyone has had more time to think.
