MOYs Galore!

Hello Pillow Panther Staff!

I hope you had a restful weekend. This week marks 2 weeks until Winter Break! I can't believe I've had the pleasure of being your principal for almost half a school year. Time is flying and I'm having a lot of fun. I hope you are as well. Just a I mentioned last week, let's finish strong over these next two weeks. When we get too relaxed with our instruction then students will take advantage of the opportunity...and usually not in a good way. Our Panthers are getting antsy and if they don't have meaningful lessons to keep them engaged in the classroom, they are going to look for something else to do over these next two weeks. Also, if you notice that one of your students doesn't seem to be in the right state of mind for the day (looks extra tired, looks agitated, looks sad, etc.) don't let that linger. You are your students best advocate and when you see something that doesn't look right, address it right away. Or call an administrator or a counselor. When kiddos go all day in that state it can lead to poor decisions, lack of focus, etc.

We are finishing up our MOY testing this week. Again, if you are not testing, please ensure that your kiddos are quiet and respectful in the hallways while others are testing. And please avoid the computer lab and the small playground in the morning as they are close to the classrooms where testing is happening. For those classes that are testing, please get your kiddos to class as quickly as possible after assembly so you can do a quick review, maybe some stretching, and talk about the importance of these tests. Not to stress any student out, but to remind them that it is important to take these tests seriously. We need to start on time so we can end on time. Also, a reminder that teachers who are testing can wear jeans and t-shirts since you will be actively monitoring all morning.

The dates of this week's MOY testing are as follows:

Mon 12/7

8:00 - 11:00 - 3rd Math

8:00 - 11:00 - 4th Math

8:00 - 11:00 - 5th Science

Tue 12/8

8:00 - 11:00 - 3rd Reading

8:00 - 11:00 - 4th Reading

Wed 12/9

8:00 - 12:00 - 4th Writing

Also, this Thursday is Multicultural Night from 5:30 to 7:00. I'm really looking forward to this event as it was one that was mentioned by most teachers this summer when I asked them to share things they love about Pillow. The diversity of our campus is something that drew me to it and made me want to apply for this position. I look forward to celebrating that diversity on Thursday and I hope many of you can join us. Also, please encourage some of your parents to create boards to display that night so we can learn about other cultures.

That's all for now. I look forward to another great week this week with the best staff around. Thanks for all you do.

-Mr. Hill
