Indian Hills Gold Rush Trip (This Thursday!)
We are so excited to travel back in time to the late 1840's and try to strike it rich!
Please review the yellow information sheet that is coming home TODAY with your child. Remember your child needs to be at Solana Pacific Thursday morning by 8:00am. The front office will be open and we will meet in our classroom before leaving on the buses at 8:15.
Each student needs snacks (morning and late afternoon), a water bottle and a small backpack. There are no secure areas to store items, so students should not bring any cameras or electronics. Lunch and dinner will be provided by the camp.
Students should wear gold rush attire, such as-plaid shirts, jeans, bandanas, closed-toe shoes, etc. Also a hat and sunscreen are recommended.
Please email me by Wednesday afternoon if you plan to carpool or have another adult besides a parent pick-up your child.
This Week's Learning Targets
Language Arts:
By the Great Horn Spoon Novel Study- Historical Fiction
This week we are continuing our novel study. Students will travel back in time as they read this story about the adventures of 12-year-old Jack Flagg and his butler, Praiseworthy, who set off from Boston to California in search of gold and fortune.
We will focus on higher level comprehension, inferencing, and determining the theme as we read this historical fiction story.
Math: CAASPP testing & Module 5 Fractions/Decimals: This week we will continue with fractions and begin to move into decimals.
Social Studies: Pioneers & Gold Rush Era:
Our Pioneer Simulation continues! Students are learning first hand what life was like traveling west as they experience the successes and challenges the pioneers faced. As this adventure draws to a close, another one will begin! In our next unit we'll learn about the Gold Rush. Students will be placed into mining teams and will need to work together in order to strike it rich and pursue a better life in California in the late 1840s.
