Meeting Focus: Strong Student and Parent Support
- There is no wrong way to do this as it is the first time education has encountered something like this.
- This is an opportunity to do some really cool things and deepen your relationships with students (read aloud with your pet, video show and tell, etc.)
- Make sure you are over supporting students. There is no, "you should know this" we need to be readily available to support students as much as they need during this time.
- Remember that we have students who move from one house to another during the week. It is important to be flexible and hyper-supportive to these families as digital learning is going to be done differently in each household for one student.
Resources:
- Our main website has a parent support page for parent resources with online learning. Make sure you review this prior to the 30th so you can send parents there with their questions. It might be helpful to have this linked to your class website or in your parent letter.
- All staff support items are on our Staff Intranet Page under the Virtual Learning Resources Tab.
- If you need help with anything in regards to Google Classroom, parent letters, parent communication, student concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to the admin team and Hannah.
Q&A:
Do we have to wait to send the letter out?
No, the sooner you send them the more time you have to answer parent questions before Friday.
If I am an interventionist/specialist should I set up a classroom for my small groups?
Yes. This is not mandatory for students to attend, but will be beneficial and used as a resource by parents and students.
Should our office hours be the same for the whole team?
I can see the benefit to doing this. It allows parents and students to remember one common time that teachers will be available to support students. It also ensures that students are not working during office hours and missing potential help time with other teachers.
If a student was gone prior to break and did not get work turned in what do we do?
Email admin with your specific situation as a team and we will provide guidance.
TA responsibilities:
Get creative. Add them as co-teachers and have them help with reading responses and providing feedback, have them do read aloud videos for your class, have them be there to support students during your office hours, etc.
Helpful Resources
ASSISTment- This app allows you to upload problem sets into your Google Classroom. Here's a more in depth description: The ASSISTments App for Google Classroom gives access to content that used to only be available at www.ASSISTments.org.
With the App, teachers can find our content preview it and then assign it directly to their students. The link that is pushed to the class stream goes to the student report for the teacher. For the students the link goes to the problems in the assignment where they will get immediate feedback.Important Dates to Remember
