Principal's Update
Scappoose Students, Families, and Staff,
Hello Scappoose Community,
The sun is out, and we are entering the final month and a half of this school year. Seniors have received information regarding all the upcoming events that culminate with graduation on June 3rd at 1 PM on McNabb Field. Seniors have 15 days until the regular term ends! Oregon state assessments will start on May 1st, 2023; students will be testing either the morning half or afternoon half of the day until all Juniors that have not opted out complete all the assessments. Thanks to the leadership students and the entire student body showing their appreciation to the administration on April 24th! Please see below for essential schedule announcements, leadership activities, and athletics.

JUNIORS! TESTING STARTS MONDAY!
Juniors will have the opportunity to complete state testing starting May 1st and ending on May 12th.
State law requires us to inform you that a form is available from the State Department of Education that allows you to opt your child out of the math and English Language Arts assessments for the current school year. Should you wish to opt-out your child, fill out the form and submit it to the main office or email them to Jami Schmid at, jschmid@scappoose.k12.or.us.

Attendance News
Tardy # 1: three unexcused tardies in any one class in one semester. The result is after-school detention.
Tardy # 2: any tardy from any other class in the same semester. The result is after-school detention.
Tardy # 3: the next tardy from any class in the same semester. The result is Saturday School.
Unexcused absences will result in Saturday School
NOTE: Oversleeping, even when excused by a parent/guardian, is not considered excused.

The freshmen leadership team, future sophomores, are responsible for our 2024 Winter Ball. They’re fundraising efforts begin almost a year in advance. Encourage your SHS freshmen (Class of 2026) to sign up for a few upcoming volunteer/fundraising events HERE. These are great ways to get more involved here at SHS and spend positive time with friends.

The Scappoose School District is excited to offer nutritious meals to our students. Free/Reduced Lunch Application
Scappoose High School also has a food pantry for students in need. Stop by the counseling office if you are in need or have any questions or even if you just need a snack.
Student breakfast and lunches are no longer free. Lunch is 3.75 and breakfast is 2.00. You can send money with your student and take it to the cafeteria or log into mealtime to add money to your account. https://www.mymealtime.com

The sun has been shining and so have our teams as we rapidly approach May. All of our teams continue to roll through conference play, matches, and meets.

The bats were on fire this week as they defeated St. Helens (11-0) and Seaside (15-3).
They play @ St. Helens again Saturday - first pitch at 2:00pm
Baseball:
Took over the #1 ranking in state and stand at 13-2 overall
Swept Hidden Valley (Grants Pass) last weekend and St. Helens yesterday (8-2)

Boys Golf:
Shot a solid 351 team score at the Seaside Invitational Monday
Headed to Trysting Tree Tuesday for State Preview and shot 360

Girls Golf:
Played in Corvallis (Trysting Tree) for the State Preview on Monday and finished 5th of 14.

This party is meant to be a safe place for graduating seniors to celebrate together. They will be bussed to a secret (fun!) location in the evening after the graduation ceremony. They will be bussed back in the morning. The evening is filled with food, games, prizes, activities, chilling, and loads of fun!
DUE MAY 30 - JUNE 1: Senior collage with photos and memories of your senior will be on display at a special ‘Walk through Memory Lane’ event following the Baccalaureate in the cafeteria, on June 2.
Poster requirements: Design vertically 28” h x 22” w on traditional poster board, including the student’s name on the front and upper left corner on the back.
You will get the posters back after the event. Have fun and get creative!

OVERVIEW
What we do:
Event planning, resourcing and fundraising for the Senior Luncheon, Baccalaureate and Graduation party.
Senior Luncheon, Fri Jun 2: After the seniors do their parade-style walk through the elementary schools, they come back to the high school to refuel with some lunch and then start rehearsal for the graduation ceremony. Lunch is provided by the Safe & Sober parent organization.
7:30 am breakfast. Cap & Gowns will be distributed

12pm LUNCH
Baccalaureate, Fri Jun 2 @ 7 pm in the auditorium: This is an optional event based on the ceremony of blessing that has often preceded graduations. Ours is a non-denominational and inspirational celebration and will include a guest speaker, the senior slideshow, and more. The slideshow is put together by the Safe & Sober parent organization along with some light refreshments.
Seniors need to arrive by 6:45 pm and dress appropriately
Graduation party, Sat Jun 3: This party is meant to be a safe place for graduating seniors to celebrate together.
