Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of May 22, 2022
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Greetings,
In light of the most recent school shooting in Texas and a shooting in Pleasantville causing a local High School (Holy Spirit) to lock down, I want you to know that we at EHTHS take our security very seriously. During this week we had township patrol cars sporadically roaming the perimeter of the school. We have a great security team here as well and they continually monitor the building both inside and out. Our teachers are great in helping our students feel safe. We sincerely do the best we can to keep your children and our staff safe. Please always remember that when coming into the building to have identification with you.
This was the last full week of May and things are beginning to happen very quickly as we wind down the school year! Seniors had an assembly on Wednesday morning to discuss graduation, obligations, and the next few weeks. After their assembly we were very fortunate to put on a mock car crash for our seniors. This was done with the help and support of our EHT fire department, EHT Police department, EMS, the County Medical Examiner and Adams Perfect Funeral Home. The purpose was to draw attention to all that is involved with a serious car accident. Also, to promote safety when driving as we approach Prom and Graduation. Students were told not to be a distracted driver. Keep phones away, do not drink and drive or anything that would prevent you from having your full attention on the road. The entire demonstration was very impactful to our senior class.
Within the next few days, a letter will go out to all Senior parents with information concerning their seniors for the next few weeks. Information is also available on the High School web page under Graduation Information.
We are heading into week 5 of EHT idol. There still is time to vote for Min Hwang or Sophia Salerno. Next week will be in the semifinals and the first to go will be Jacklyn Kwarteng against Kimora Stuckey. Good luck everyone!
On Monday, May 23, CP Core Science classes had an amazing opportunity to attend a virtual presentation given by Jerad Merbitz, a NASA engineer and liaison to SpaceX. He shared his story and gave words of advice to motivate our students to dream and achieve their goals!
NJSLA for grade 11 Science standards was administered on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 24 and 25. On Thursday and Friday, May 26 and 27, our Freshman class took their NJSLA test for ELA and Math.
On Tuesday night, Dr. Gruccio recognized our boys basketball team for a winning season, and Carlos Lopez for his contributions to the team. She recognized our boys and girls swim teams as well.
On Wednesday May 25, students traveled to the Teen Tech at ACCC for a field trip. Students had a great experience.
May 27, twelve of our students will travel to Stockton University to take the Educator’s Core Praxis test.
Today, our girls Softball team will continue in the State Championships with a semi final game here at home. When they win they will go to the state final. We wish them the best.
Next week, on June 2, all students who have had a 90 average, unweighted, for the first 3 marking periods will be recognized in a ceremony during the school day. Parents of these students should have received a letter indicating their children are being recognized with the Academic Achievement Award. The recognition will be live streamed for all to see.
One last reminder, the Egg Harbor Township School District will be closed on Monday, May 30, 2022 in observance of Memorial Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, May 31st.
Until next week, have a wonderful weekend! Stay safe, be well, continue to dream of the possibilities ahead of us, be happy and smile at someone!
Ms. Connor

Story Slam
I wanted to congratulate Christine Salvatore for an AMAZING story slam! You put this together so quickly and the students really had a chance to shine. These pictures do not show all who attended. I think you had up to 30 students!
You provided an open, supportive forum for students to share their voice. Even those who were too shy to speak were inspired by those who did. I did not know your friend and colleague, Paul-Victor, but I can see that he has left a lasting impact.
Thank you for all you do!
Sincerely,
Linda Santiago

CP Core Science
On Monday, the CP Core Science classes had the amazing opportunity to attend a virtual presentation from Jerad Merbitz, a NASA engineer and liaison to SpaceX. He shared his story and offered words of advice to motivate our students to dream and achieve their goals. He included many exciting pictures to show us what it's like to work at Kennedy Space Center. We also got to see how NASA will send spacecraft to different parts of the Solar System and astronauts to the Moon and Mars!
We are so grateful Jerad was willing to take time to add extra content to our Astronomy unit here at EHTHS!

COMMUNITY PRIDE
Student Assistance Program and Resources
FREE TICKETS AVAILABLE!!
The High School has adopted a new bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams. We even have 3 of our own students who were selected by the foundation as leaders for this initiative!
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander.
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊

BOYS VARSITY VOLLEYBALL
Congratulations to the boys' volleyball team on an incredible season! In only the program's second year, the team achieved some incredible individual and team milestones. First, the team won the unofficial CAL title for the second year in a row going a combined 13-1 against CAL opponents over the past two years.
Second, the team finished 9th out of 42 teams in the South Jersey. The team finished with 518 kills with three players recording over 100 kills in senior captain Scott Hilter (173), junior Alec Barnes (115), and sophomore Chriistiian Vichienrat (109). Defensively, the eagles recorded a whopping 854 digs with four players finishing with over 100 each in Hiltner (210), junior Alex Adair (204), senior captain Andy Auyeung (151), and junior Michael Nammour (103). The team had 183 blocks with junior Alec Barnes (53) and senior Brandon Dao (37) leading the team. The setters from EHT racked up 441 assists with junior Nammour 'setting' a school record 370 of them. Throughout the season, the team scored 106 aces on serves with junior Adair and senior Hiltner leading the team with 20 each. All of these numbers are individual and team school records.
The team dedicated the season to teammate Ron Sansom who missed the majority of season due to injury. His absence was felt each match, and the team rose to fill the 6'4'' hole that was left in the lineup. Congratulations and good luck to the class of 2022 seniors!
