Dear Advisory Board :

My general area of interest for this project will be communication and the effect it has on people when seeking a relationship . I know that having substantial communication is vital when searching for a potential companion. I chose this topic because I have always had an interest what makes communication important. This topic is important to me because I may one day be able to save a relationship from failing.

I plan to discuss how communication plays a significant role in relationships along with steps that correspond to having a prosperous relationship. I will ask questions such as; what makes communicating so important in a relationship, why do relationships fail and what makes a relationship successful.

To follow through with my project my product plan is to create a brochure of questions that couples should know the answer to about their partner . This will be a challenge for me because I have no experience in putting together questions that couples should know the answer too, along with creating a key that explains how well each partner knows the other. When seeking a mentor I searched for someone who has knowledge on the topic of relationships. My mentor will be Mrs. Suzanne Russell because she has endured many relationships and will provide insightful information on her experiences.

I understand that plagiarism is illegal and that I would be taking credit for someone else’s work. Plagiarism will get me nowhere, I must do my own work in order to learn from this project. It is important to be an ethical person to avoid facing serious consequences.

Sincerely,

Mya Neal

My topic is essential when it comes to recognizing how important communication within a relationship is. The questions I have longed to answer are appropriate because not only do they answer why communication is important but it follows through with my research paper. This will be a challenge for me because I have no experience in putting together questions that couples should know the answer too, along with creating a scoring system that explains how well each partner knows the other. Before encountering this project my boyfriend and I took a quiz to see how well we know each other, therefor sparking my interest in this topic. This topic is important to me because I have personally have seen the effect communicating in a relationship has on couples. I feel that if I can show others why communicating is so vital then I may be able to help save ones relationship. From this experience I gained more knowledge about my partner as well as how others interact with their partners. I also learned that without communication it's as if two people are missing out on a world of new adventures. I learned that when two people choose to communicate on a deeper level it not only assures both partners of what they have in each other; but also what they can do as a couple to grow stronger.

One problem I encountered when working on this project was trying to find candidates who would be willing to take time out of their schedule to help me with my project. I also had a difficult time coming up with questions that were not too hard but were not extremely easy. My last problem came about when trying to figure out a scoring system that would be easy for my candidates to keep up with and interpret their scores and what they mean. I over came all of these problems luckily I had some gracious volunteers as well as selecting my own relationship to participate. Trying to come up with questions became a little easier after asking people what kinds of question they would typically ask on a first date, by doing this I got some great feedback which allowed me to create my questions. The scoring system was a little challenging as far as trying to figure out how to award points without it being a big hassle, I ended up going with a 2pt system and having an even number being the highest amount of points each couple could achieve. From encountering these problems I learned that when you get stuck never stress out about it because the minute you stress is when everything gets worse. By choosing to take a deep breath and relax that's when I was able to regain my thoughts and work through my problems diligently . If I could start this process over again I would have made my questionnaire even bigger and perhaps have turned it into a game show as a way to get more people involved.

When contemplating who to choose as an expert, I thought about the people who I am close to and those who have shared some of their relationship stories with me in the past. When I chose Mrs.Russell as my expert I knew I had made the right choice just by the feedback she had given me throughout this experience. Mrs.Russell gave me advice as far as where to take my product idea and advised me to not think so broadly but think of how I can maximize my time by making this experiment a memorable one. She shared some of her relationship stories with me which helped me come up with some questions that I could ask and when I seemed a little stressed out about the product she knew just what to say to get me to relax. As far as what I learned from my expert about my topic, I learned that no matter how old or how young you are every relationship goes through different situations, but its how you choose to communicate and work through them which determines the outcome. When it came time to coming up with questions she assisted me by telling me questions she thought were good and what questions I could change or eliminate from the questionnaire. She also helped me think of different ways I could do the scoring system and that was a big help.

What I learned about myself from the Capstone Experience is that I am a person who is open to a wide variety of opinions when it comes to the best way to communicate in a relationship. I listened to all of the opinions from my couples and gave them feedback about my personal opinions as well. As far as what I learned about my topic, I learned that communicating is the only way two people can ever truly learn more about one another and learn how to work through problems. I learned that everyone has a different outlook on what is best when it comes to a relationship and being open minded is the best way to achieve success. My most valuable accomplishment was getting to work with people who not only enjoyed my project but made me laugh in the process. Knowing that I was helping others by showing them what they know about each other and what they could do to improve their relationship was very rewarding. In the future I will use what I gained from this experience in many ways. When I encounter a problem in my relationship I will talk it out rather than bottle up my feelings,, I will strive to get to know my partner on a deeper level. I will also share my experience and the helpful tips I learned with others who may seek some advice in regards to troubles in a relationship. I honestly can not wait to help others just from the experience I had through this project.

How It All Began .....

About the Questions

The questions I chose to ask the couples are questions I thought were things that all couples should know about their significant other.

The Questions

1.What is your partners favorite color ?

2.Does your partner prefer a cat or a dog?

3.Does your partner have their wisdom teeth?

4.Has your partner ever had braces?

5.Is your partner allergic to anything if so what ?

6.Does your partner consider themselves to be outgoing or shy?

7.What does your partner think the perfect date is ?

8.What is the date you and your partner got together?

9.What kind of music does your partner prefer?

10.What is your partners favorite pass time activity?

11.When is your partners birthday?

12.In a relationship does your partner find trust, communication, quality time or gifts most valuable?

13.Is your partner right handed or left handed?

14.How many siblings does your partner have?

15.What is your partners middle name?

The Product Begins ......

For my product I chose to conduct a questionnaire among couples who have been together for different lengths of time. With my experiment my goal was to see how well two people know one another after the time they have spent together. I also Chose to come up with my own rating scale based on how many questions the couple got right.

Scoring Overview

Every question answered correctly is worth 2pts. Each couple has a chance to earn up to 60pts and the couple with the highest score is the winner. Through this experiment my goal is to show couples how important communication is between two people.

Thankful for a Wonderful Expert!
