Garden Program Update
Garden classes started up again this month so all students are back in the garden every week! When rain prevents an outdoor class the garden teachers move inside. Our focus this month is designing our new habitat garden area. We have received an irrigation and plants grant through the Garden Network in conjunction with Harmony Gardens in Sebastopol. This is based upon the PBL project designing wildlife habitats for different critters and insects. We are also generating ideas for what to plant this spring, and tasting winter greens (Veggie of the Month) growing in the garden right now. We have collected $6,100 in student donations and garden donations from produce earlier on. We are currently almost $2,000 short of our fundraising goal but if all families donate the requested $40 amount we will be able to meet our goal and have garden classes for the remainder of the year. Please join us on Sunday, April 28th from 12-3 for our Garden Celebration event held in our school garden area. There will be info booths, spring inspired crafts, music, games, and veggie starts for sale.
Earth Savers Club
UELF has a new student-led club that is ready to change the world! The Earth Savers Club began their lunchtime meeting this month. Our first lunchtime meeting was held last Friday and was a great success. With over 20 enthusiastic members in grades 2nd-5th, the plan is to open it up to younger students if we can get enough parent volunteers. Our lead parent volunteer for this Club is Sybil Halloran. Please contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org or Mrs. Straub for more information on the Club or if you would like to volunteer. The club meets once a week on Fridays during lunch and has begun outlining plans to take collective action around environmental stewardship and education. The exciting activities the Earth Savers are working on include: school-wide recycling and composting, wildlife habitat creation, litter abatement, keeping storm drains pollutant free, worm rescue, and peer-to-peer education. We can't wait to see what the Earth Savers do!
Exciting news…..We are going to have our first Yearbook this year. Please upload your photos of school events, field trips, and classroom activities to
community.lifetouch.com UELF’s school code is FOJLDK
Please also help by putting your photos in the appropriate folder so that we know which event the picture was taken at.
Images uploaded before April, 1st will be considered for the yearbook. Please submit photos that are at least 300 dpi to ensure acceptable print quality for the yearbook. Note: Photos from social media website may not be acceptable quality.
