HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 4 Week 4 November 8 2019
FROM MARK
Dear Parents and Guardians
You will have seen recently in our newsletter some of the thinking of our children about Making Jesus Real. MJR is faith in this moment and is beyond price! It also a point of convergence with the thinking of Sebastian Moore (and many others) about the necessity to see faith, lived, today.
Many of our children were involved in this week’s Interschool Athletics Carnival, Hale Connect Triathlon, and the Primary Triathlon Championships. What a week! What remarkable children! They are to be congratulated on absolutely giving of their best!
Sincere thanks to Rob Flexman our teacher of Physical Education for being so keen to make these opportunities available to our children, and for such a high degree of organisation and preparation to ensure our involvement is as good as it is. The training sessions, which have also involved Julie Catherall, teacher assistant and triathlete, have been much valued by the children and of great benefit. Thank you Julie and Rob!
Next Friday we welcome our Grandparents or their representatives to join their grandchildren for lunch and then visit their classrooms. More information later in this newsletter.
Best wishes
Mark de Kluyver
Principal

duty of care #2
Before school supervision starts at 8.15am. No supervision is available before that time unless your child is involved in before school sports training. Please ensure that this is adhered to or, if supervision is required before that time, please contact Discovery Kids who provide before school care from 7am.
The Dominican Playground (the one with the lovely new sail!) closes at 3.30pm as it is then licenced to After School Care. It is lovely to see how many families use that time from after school until 3.30pm to play there. But this can only happen if the following is adhered to. Please note that:
- The playground doesn’t include the Veritas Garden, Oval, Courts etc. It only relates to the grassed area and play equipment in the sandpit.
- parents and guardians must exercise line of sight supervision for all children using the playground at that time - otherwise they may not use the area. Keep it safe!
- Please vacate the playground by 3.30pm
Nothing in this is new. The arrangement is long standing. We are keen for it to continue.
SCHOOL FEE REMINDER
Thank you to all the parents who paid their account this week. We still have a number of families to finalise their account, please pay promptly. If you have any queries regarding your account, please contact the office.
YEAR 4 MAKING JESUS REAL
GRANDPARENTS DAY
All grandparents are invited to bring lunch to school on Friday November 15 to enjoy with their grandchildren.
If grandparents aren't available, we invite grandparents to 'adopt' children from other families, or for other family members (uncles, aunts, even parents!) to take their place. All are welcome!
12:45 - 1:00pm: Collect a map of the school showing classes, (maps will be available outside the school office) and set up picnic anywhere on the grounds including the oval.
1:05pm: Lunch with your grandchild
1:45 - 2:00pm: Students to go to toilet and to get a drink.
2:00 - 3:00pm: Visit Classrooms
We hope this will be a lovely way to spend time with one another and look forward to your company.
GRANDPARENTS CAN ORDER A CANTEEN LUNCH
As on the Athletics Carnival Day, we will be having a "Special Events Menu" (including sushi). To help with catering I am asking that all orders to be in by Thursday 9am. Hand written orders to be taken to the Office and online orders will be printed at 9am. Ice-Cream and drinks will also be available over the counter.
If using Quikcliq please use the Add Student function for each grandparent, if handwritten please write a new bag for each. All must be labelled with the child's classroom.
Any questions please call Leanna on 0414953958. Hope you have a wonderful day.
NSI Parent and Caregiver Survey (PaCS)
Beginning this year, every two years Holy Rosary School will conduct an opinion survey where the information given is used to inform and direct our future planning and improvement.
I ask that you please take the time to complete the attached survey as your feedback is very important. It will help us with various future outcomes of the running of the school.
Please be assured that your responses are completely confidential. The survey is completed anonymously and it is important that you complete the survey as honestly as possible.
I ask that you complete the survey online prior to November 10th, 2019.
NEWSLETTER ARTWORK BY PRE-KINDY
CPSSA ATHLETICS CARNIVAL & HALE CONNECT TRIATHLON
What a great week we have had for sport at Holy Rosary. I would like to thank Sue Griffin for her fabulous article on the events of this week and as such I will keep my article brief.
I would just like to say thanks to our parents and staff for all their help and of course all of our wonderful students for all of their hard work this term.
I was so proud of your efforts to win the boys shield and overall shield at the athletics carnival and then to back it up with such a great showing in the Hale Connect Triathlon. A special mention Flynn Morison and James Barnard who came 2nd and 3rd in the Year 6 boys event, these were just a few of the great results achieved on the day.
Special mention to Julie Catherall who helped me train the squads as always your help is very much appreciated by everyone in the Holy Rosary Community especially me.
We still have the Primary School Triathlon Championships on the 8th to round off the week, and our Holy Rosary Swimming Carnival on November 25, so there is still lots of fun ahead in sport.

We thank Deborah Noblett for her four-year contribution to the School Board since 2016. Deb has provided ongoing support in the secretariat role that involved a commitment to governance of the Board meetings. We also express our gratitude for Deb's professional contribution and support to the school capital development planning and her invaluable input into this complex work. With a young family, Deb has been able to maintain a strong network to many other young families at school and provide a conduit for information flowing. Thank you, Deb!
2016 – 2019: Board Member
Deb: Why did you join the Board and what have you got out of it?
The Board Chair (Jonathon) asked if I would be interested in joining the School Board, given my professional background as an engineer and the fact I had young kids at the school. I had no idea what the School Board was or did, so I was reluctant at first! My four years on the School Board has given me a greater understanding of and appreciation into the way the school is operated and funded and the challenges the staff face in order to make Holy Rosary the school it is today!
If you are interested in serving on the School Board, please speak with Jonathon Woolfrey (outgoing Chair) or Mark de Kluyver. Please contact the office.
Outgoing Board Member
We thank Kathy Blitz-cokis for her contribution to the School Board over the past four years. Kathy has been a key member of the School Board, with her long association with the school providing a valuable perspective during Board discussions. Kathy’s professional expertise has been invaluable, and with her regular contribution as a panel member for our teacher recruitment processes, Kathy’s contribution to our school has been significant and will be missed. Thank you, Kathy.
2016 – 2019: Board Member
2005 – 2007: P&F Committee
Kathy: Why did you join the Board and what have you got out of it?
My family started at the school in 2002. When the older kids moved on and Jesse began at Holy Rosary, it was an opportunity to be connected, contribute and support the school in a different way. I had been part of the P&F over several years in the early days and assisted when there was a need. I have enjoyed the bigger picture focus and gaining a better understanding of the mechanics of the school system. Holy Rosary is terrific and has been a positive chapter in each of my kids’ lives.
If you are interested in serving on the School Board, please speak with Jonathon Woolfrey (outgoing Chair) or Mark de Kluyver. Please contact the office.
