Let's finish with a BANG!
Peculiar School Family Week 4
Time Flies When you are Having Fun!
- How did I "stretch" my instructional practices? Did I leave my comfort zone to try a different approach?
- Did I try a new strategy to build my classroom family? Summer school is fast paced and requires a certain skill level to build trust and teamwork in a short period of time. Would you do anything different next year?
- How does "engagement" look in your classroom using a STEAM curriculum? What will you take back to the regular school year?
My connection for the summer is how similar our world in education is to the engineering design model. Think about how our practices would change if we applied our instructional and behavioral practices to this model.
Ask ->Imagine -> Plan-> Create ->Improve ->Repeat
I couldn't have asked for a better team at Peculiar Elementary this summer! Thank you for sharing yourselves with your students and our Peculiar Family. Hope to see you next year.
Check Out Procedures
1) Check-Out List can be found here
2) Farewell Rituals-How will you say goodbye to close out your summer school family.
- Positive Bombardment- Students say or write 1 positive thing about each other
- See you Later Songs- NaNaNa Sound of Music ABC you later I get by with a little help from my friends Lean on Me
4) Technology - Turn in all technology by Wednesday
5) Send an email to each student's parent about their progress.
6) During Week 2 I issued you a challenge. Send me an email about what or how you did on your principal's challenge for the summer. The choices are below. If you forgot, then tell me how you "stretched or grew this summer."
THE CHALLENGE WAS...
Everyone is at different levels of feeling comfortable with teaching STEAM. Challenge yourself and your teammates to try making one change.
Give Meaningful Feedback- Often it is easy to slip into the habit of saying "Good Work" or "Good Job!" Instead make your feedback purposeful and meaningful to enhance the learning of your students. i.e. "I noticed you had several different ideas about how to solve the problem, you kept trying different ideas, until you found one that worked. How did that make you feel?"
Ask more questions- Questioning can be a great tool for learning. Quick Tip: remove the word WHY from your vocabulary and you will see learning happen faster. When you ask any question with the word, "Why..." the brain immediately slips right into its limbic system feeling like it must defend or be judged. Give it a try.
Project based learning- The majority (60-80%) of your learning time should be in project based learning. Does your schedule match up? Are you asking for extra support and help? Together, we can achieve more. Be creative.
Laugh more with students-Did you know.. laughter actually extends your life and opens your brain to new learning.
Roller's Ramblings- STEAM Celebration
1. On Wednesday, June 27th everyone will have PE. During your specials time, report to the gym. On Wednesday, please remind parents via email about tennis shoes and clean socks as we will have the inflatable out again. Also, wear older comfy clothes, and bring a water bottle.
2. The attached link is a field day video to show your students before their session starts on Thursday June 28th and it will help you at a station if there is no parent there. It explains the activity and rules for each station.
3. On steam celebration/field day, we will have a staff member to supervise your students during 2 of the stations (Yet to be determined). Use this time to finish your checkout list and get things packed up.
