World War 1 Centenary Concert

On Thursday night, children from Years 5 and 6 joined with children from Holy Trinity School, Moorside Juniors and Greystone Outwood, to create a Ripon Schools' Choir. Along with the Dishforth Military Wives and Ripon City Band they entertained a packed Cathedral. The special concert was part of the city's remembrance events and as always Cathedral pupils represented the school so well, singing songs from the First World War with gusto and passion. A big thank you to everyone who came along and to Mrs Elcock for organising our children's participation.

Remembrance and Mud!

On Tuesday, Years 3 and 4 had the opportunity of visiting the Cathedral to meet with Dan Metcalfe, the artist behind the Fields of Mud, Seeds of Hope. The piece, on display at the Cathedral, is a depiction of a line of personnel returning from war, created through the process of drying mud. He talked through the piece, how it was made and the characters within it. The children were inspired by the silhouetted character of ‘Hope’ and wrote some incredible pieces of poetry using the theme of ‘Hope’. A huge thank you to Dan from all the children, they were inspired, as thousands of people have been, by this remarkable installation.

Animation Adventure

For this term's REAL project topic, Year 2 will be creating an animation recounting the Great Fire of London. Yesterday they went to Curzon cinema in Ripon to watch 'Early Man' for free as part of the Into Film Festival which is the largest youth film festival in the world. It gave the children the opportunity to see an animation and have the full cinema experience with an icy cold drink and pop corn. Hopefully this will inspire the children for their own animation and exhibition.

Cracking Cross Country Winners

This week children from Key Stage 2 took part in the Ripon schools' cross country event. As always Team Cathedral represented the school brilliantly and gave a hundred percent effort.

Our Daily Mile is clearly impacting on pupils' running ability as Team Cathedral came first with Hannah Salden running like a rocket and being the fastest overall runner. Well done to everyone involved!

Year 4 Welcome Worship

Following this half term's value of compassion, the Year 4 children gave their thoughts on what compassion meant to them, focusing particularly on compassion for those affected by conflict and war. They read their poems about Hope and their descriptions of a scene from a short story, The Day War Came. The worship finished with ‘Like a Bridge over Troubled Water’ which was sung beautifully. Thank you to all the parents who attended.
