Principal Points
Dear Families,
As we finish this year, many of you may have questions about grading and end of year report cards. We have received guidance from the Minnesota Department of Education and worked closely with our District Leadership to ensure that this unprecedented situation of distance learning does not adversely affect how we report your child’s academic progress.
The learning that has occurred throughout the entire school year will allow each student to progress to the next grade level. However, please know that the method of reporting at the end of this year will look different than in previous years. This will be reflected as an “S” on your child’s report card to indicate “satisfactory” and continuation onto the next grade. Your child’s report card will be available through ParentVue on Friday, June 5. Your child’s teacher is the best source of information about your childs progress, so please do not hesitate to reach out in these final weeks.
Going into fall, we will be checking in on any additional learning from the previous year that your child needs in order to meet students where they are in their learning and assist in their growth.
Finally, I want to express my sincere appreciation for the understanding, patience and grace so many of you have shown us during this unprecedented time.
Thank you,
Lindsey Samec

Summer Band News
We have made some changes to our Summer Band Program so that we will be able to offer Distance Learning classes. The dates are the same, July 6-30, with various times for all instruments and students. Financial assistance is available for families who qualify. Summer Band students will be able to use school chromebooks and will also receive a subscription to SmartMusic. These will be necessary resources for our Distance Learning instruction. Students will be able to pick up instruments and other materials the last week of June as needed. Details will be provided at a later date. Check out our website for more information.
Current Band Students
If you have already registered for the Intro to Middle School Band, there are some changes. We will be offering 30 minute 6th Grade Band Sectionals which will meet Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Community Education will update your course and send an e-mail to confirm your enrollment in the new Distance Learning program. Please allow up to 2 weeks for this process. You may contact Community Education if you wish to make any further changes. If you haven’t registered, you may view the times available for each instrument and complete the online registration for Summer Band HERE.
Current 4th Graders
Summer Band registration for Beginning Band is now open. Watch this informational video HERE to help decide what instrument you would like to play in band. We'd encourage students to watch this with their parents and discuss your options together. Click HERE for information on how to rent an instrument and how to sign up for summer classes (45-minute classes will be offered in the morning and evening for all instruments). District band directors will be available to talk/meet with you on-line during one of our help session on Wed, May 20 from 1-3 p.m.
Students who are unable to participate in the summer beginning band program will have opportunities to learn the instruments and play in the band when school resumes in the fall.
Summer Orchestra News
We know fourth and fifth graders have been anxiously waiting for their chance to sign up for summer orchestra, and NOW is the time! Orchestra is a fun, exciting and vibrant community to join. Since we can’t meet in person, we are preparing an exciting program using new digital tools to help you continue to grow your skills in orchestra. This year, classes will meet for 30 minutes on Mondays/Wednesdays OR Tuesdays/Thursdays from July 6-30. For full details and registration information on your grade and instrumentation, see below.
5th grade summer orchestra interactive sectionals (for students entering fifth grade in fall 2020)
6th grade summer orchestra interactive sectionals (for students entering sixth grade in fall 2020)
We will also prepare to perform the National Anthem at the Twins game on Tuesday, September 15. We have reserved the date, but the performance will be confirmed at a later date due to forthcoming state guidelines and recommendations.
We look forward to making and exploring new music with you this summer!
