A Message from Principal Boucher
SLPHS families:
Today is Veterans Day - a celebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. As a veteran myself, I appreciate the sacrifices made by so many to ensure we as a nation continue to strive to live our highest ideals. I share my thanks with all veterans and their families for giving so much.
As we enter our 2nd week of full-school Extended Flexible Learning, I want to thank families for your support during this transition. Our staff are designing and delivering daily “live” learning (M,T, Th, F) in whole class, small group or individual settings as well as providing self-directed learning and assignments each day. We appreciate all you do at home to support your student being attentive to their learning while we are learning in this model.
We continue to track COVID-19 infection rates in Anoka County and in our district and schools. A message was shared with all Spring Lake Park Schools families on Friday about what the district is tracking and how we’re approaching decision-making.
We want nothing more than to get back to learning at school. Unfortunately, Anoka County infection numbers are continuing to move in the wrong direction. The first step to getting back to school is controlling the spread of virus in our community.
We will continue to work to clarify what a path to reopening looks like for us. In the meantime, please do your part by following public health guidance and encouraging your friends and neighbors to do the same. Watch for more information in the coming days, and reach out if you have questions.
Teachers, families and students who have been doing distance learning this fall are sharing their perspectives on the experience and how it’s changed from the spring. See their story in today’s newsletter.
You’ll also see a Veterans Day video. I was honored to share a bit about my history in the service along with our school nurse, Mindy Bellomy. We both have great pride in our service to this country. And, we share our gratitude for all the past and present service members and their families in our community and country for all they have sacrificed for our way of life.
As always, thank you for your continued partnership. Together, we build bright futures. Happy Veterans Day!
Humbly grateful,
Matthew Boucher, Principal
Thank you to our Veterans
We had the opportunity to hear from two of our very own SLP Veterans. Thank you to all Veterans who have served our country.
Experiences from distance learning
There are 1,973 Spring Lake Park Schools students at all grade levels who have been learning in the SLP Extended Flexible Learning (distance learning) model this fall. There are more live interactions, creative ways to engage students and more and more personalized feedback.
COVID-19 dashboard available on the website
Spring Lake Park Schools is working with our regional support team – including public health experts from Anoka County and Minnesota Department of Health – to understand county infection rates and trends, rates within the district zip codes and impacts to our local schools. A dashboard is now available that shows county 14-day numbers, daily county infection rates and key data points from our school district. This dashboard will be updated each Friday going forward. See the dashboard. This will be updated on the 2020-2021 School Year page on the district website.
