Franklin County 4-H News - April 12, 2022

You are receiving this newsletter because you were either enrolled in Franklin County 4-H last year or have recently enrolled in 4-H for 2022. Please pay close attention to the information in this newsletter as it contains a lot of information that is important to Franklin County 4-H members. If you are no longer in Franklin County 4-H, feel free to unsubscribe at the bottom of the page.

Required Horse Safety & Ethics Class

All 4-H members taking a horse project (this does not include horseless horse) for the first time this year are REQUIRED to participate in a Horse Safety & Ethics session prior to participating in any 4-H activities with a horse. A parent or legal guardian must attend with the member. The member must also purchase and read the book Horse Safety & You prior to attending.


Two sessions are held. Members may choose which one they want to attend. No registration required.

LIVESTOCK QUALITY ASSURANCE REQUIREMENT

Are you taking any of these 4-H projects to the Fair?

  • Market Rabbits
  • Market Poultry
  • Market Lambs
  • Market Goats
  • Lactating Dairy Goats
  • Market Beef (including beef & dairy feeders)
  • Market Swine


If you answered yes to the question above, YOU ARE REQUIRED BY LAW to attend a livestock quality assurance session in order to exhibit your animal at the fair. Franklin County is offering two sessions this year.


Franklin County 4-H Session 1:

Franklin County 4-H Session 1:

Date: May 11, 2022
Time: 6:30 PM
Location: Franklin County Fairgrounds

Franklin County 4-H Camp

All youth, ages 8 and in 3rd grade through 13, are invited to join a wild west adventure at Franklin County 4-H Camp. Campers will have fun meeting other youth while participating in a variety of camp activities like canoeing, disc golf, bottle rockets, creeking, nature exploration, swimming, hiking, team challenges, a brand new high ropes course, a climbing wall, campfires, crafts, and so much more!

Financial aid is available in the form of partial camperships for 4-H families with financial need.

Advisors: Save the Date! Required Attendance

All 4-H Clubs are required to send at least one representative to the annual 4-H Club Advisor Fair Update, April 20, 7:00pm.


Why is attendance required for this event? All clubs need to send at least one representative so that they are informed about the fair entry process. The representative is then responsible for sharing the information with their club. All advisors are encouraged to attend so they can hear the info firsthand.

(The update will start after a short 4-H Council meeting.)

Livestock Possession Dates & Requirements

All 4-H members taking livestock projects to the Franklin County Fair should download the LIVESTOCK REQUIRMENT SUMMARY which has information regarding deadlines for possession and other requirements.
