Every Friday: Oakley Park dismisses at 3:00 pm
Email from Friday, November 13, 2020
Dear Oakley Park Parents:
Keeping school safety a priority, and in an effort to be transparent, I want to inform you that we had an Oakley Park kindergarten student test positive for COVID-19. This student also has a sibling in another Oakley Park class. The sibling has tested negative at this time but is consider “presumed positive”. This has triggered the quarantine of several other students and a couple of staff members whom I have contacted individually. These students and staff will be quarantined until Nov. 24. As a precautionary measure and with an abundance of caution, we are letting you know.
Important to note:
- The children involved have NOT been at Oakley Park since approximately 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
- I have confirmed with our HR staff (in cooperation with the OCHD) that based on the definition of “close contact” no other staff would be consider a close contact there is no need for any additional staff or students, other than the ones I have personally contacted, to quarantine at this time.
- We have thoroughly cleaned and disinfected these classrooms and all the common spaces in the building with the Clorox 360 machine.
- We are fully prepared to continue our In-Person Return to Learning.
- Based on the CDC guidelines, there is no requirement for your children to quarantine at this time, unless you have notified by Mrs. Froning. If circumstances change, we will communicate that with you.
We are asking all parents to please:
- Take the necessary precautions.
- Monitor your child’s health closely.
- Keep your child home if they exhibit any COVID-19 symptoms.
- When in doubt, get your child tested.
You can find the most accessible, low-cost, time efficient testing by using the following link: Michigan.gov/CoronavirusTest. You can also call the OCHD nurse on-call with questions – 800-848-5533
Please send your children to school with a mask. Please remind them to refrain from touching any of their friends, to socially distance from one another, frequently wash their hands, and to listen and follow directions of their teacher. Thank you for helping us work through these changing, uncertain times. Please stay safe.
Sincerely,
Kristin Froning, Principal
Ongoing communication regarding possible exposures
1. After consulting with the Oakland County Health Department , students and staff who have been identified as having been in close contact will be contacted and advised of the OCHD determination regarding next steps (i.e. quarantining)
2. The entire school community will be made aware of the positive case via email.
*The COVID Dashboard is in excellent tool or monitoring the COVID activity in WLCSD.
Please be aware WLCSD requires all students to wear cloth (or surgical) face mask as these are found to be most effective in protecting and preventing the spread of COVID 19. Gators and bandanas are not deemed as safe and therefor students may not wear these at school.
Please contact Dr. Chris Delgado with questions regarding face masks. chrisdelgado@wlcsd.org
Off to a GREAT start: Arrival & Dismissal Reminders
Overall, the arrival and dismissal process went very well! As anticipated, things are taking longer but with the patience and abundance of care given by our families things went safely and smoothly!
Reminders about Owl Drop Off (Arrival)
There is no registration for Owl Drop Off, you simply pull up alongside the curb and your student(s) exit the vehicle. Students MUST be seated on the passenger side of the vehicle. It is important that students DO NOT exit their vehicle until 8:50 as this is when the doors open and student may walk directly to their classrooms. It is VERY important we avoid any congregation of students at the entrance and in the hallways. Students will enter through specific doors based on posted signage with their teacher's name.
IMPORTANT: All vehicles must pull up as far as possible allowing for the maximum number of cars along the curb.
We ask that students do not arrive at the building (walkers or drop off) before 8:50 a.m.
Students will enter the building beginning at that time, walking directly to their classrooms. Staff will be on hand to help and ensure adequate spacing between students when traveling in the hallways. An easy way to remind kids about social distancing is that they should be "at least an arms length away from others."
Students will NOT be marked tardy between 9:01 - 9:20 am at this time.
Reminders about Owl Pick Up/Dismissal:
We will begin the dismissal process at 3:40 at this time. If you choose to pick up your students from the front of the building at the end the day please note the following changes:
- All parents/caregivers MUST wear a mask when at school.
- As in previous years, parents/caregivers will sign out students on the computer in the lobby.
- One parent/caregiver in the lobby at a time.
- All parents/caregivers must wait outside, respecting signage instructions and socially distance markers.
- Students will be dismissed in a manner that will avoid a large number of students in the hallway at the same time. (Student names will be read over the PA system. Our sign out form automatically generates a list of name that our secretaries read off.)
- PLEASE be patient and kind to one another as we work together to keep one another safe and healthy!
Students riding buses will be released to their assigned bus, loading one bus at at time. Buses will depart from Oakley Park at approximately 4:00 pm.
Owl Pick Up students will be called (by number) to the pick up line in groups of about 10 numbers. Thank you in advance to parents/caregivers for following requests/directions given by our staff.

We are once again participating in the PTA Reflections Arts Program. The theme this year is "I Matter Because..." Students can submit one entry per each category. They can participate in any number of categories. The submissions are entirely online this year, this means parents need to take pictures or scan the work and submit it online. More info and a link to the entry form can be found at OakleyParkPTA.com/Reflections Entries are due 11/22
Please read the rules (listed below) prior to submitting your work to ensure all the requirements are met. The Student Entry Form must be fully filled out and turned in with the final product. On the entry form, it asks for an artist statement. When writing the artist statement, consider the following:
How does your work relate to the theme?
What is your personal connection to the theme?
What did you use to create your work (supplies, technology, instrumentation, props, etc.)?
What/Who was your inspiration?
Keep in mind the artist statement accounts for a large part of the scoring!
